Bag om You Don't Know How My Hours Go
Scene and Duet for Soprano and Bass from the opera "On the Wings of the Scarlet Messenger" with orchestral accompaniment. Music and libretto by American composer James Nathaniel Holland. The entire opera is based on the Henry James novel, On the Wings of a Dove. In this final scene Mariana (soprano) has just left the hut of the Old Market Woman with a potion in a desperate attempt to create a magic spell for her and her impoverished lover, Kai (bass), so that they can be married and live together happily. After encountering each other in the street, they have a tryst in their usual dingy hotel room where no one will find them. Kai is not convinced that a any potion will solve their problems, but believes Mariana doesn't have the love and courage to leave her rich aunt's clutches and face "come what may" in life. Full score in concert pitch. Great for concert presentation and for romantic soprano /bass duet in English that is not some young soprano and some old bass character. Instrumentation: pic, fl 12, ob, eh, clBb12, Bcl, TS, bsn, hrn1234, tpt12, trm, btrm, tim, perc (tri., wood block, large gong, castanets, hand cym., ride cym or high hat with st. and sft. mall.) hrp, singers, strings (with small violin and cello solos).
