Former orphan Carole Chapman has no use for Christmas. She remembers well the gifts she received as a child at the orphanage marked simply "Girl" and the appropriate age. Now, as a successful store owner, it's all about commercial and financial gain. Her love life isn't so great either. When she finds a baby someone has left in a church nativity scene, her past with all its disappointments and insecurities comes flooding back. Widower and police psychologist, Chris Nicholas is granted temporary custody of the baby, a little girl named Katy. A father himself as well as a foster parent, he lives on a farm with a menagerie of animals, kids of all ages and a smart-mouthed parrot. Controlled chaos best describes his rustic home. Chris is a rescuer by nature and Carole needs help badly. Chris can't help being drawn to her despite their differences.
