The protagonist, Norman Leslie, is a young Scottish man who joins the army of King James III to fight against the English. However, he is captured by the English and imprisoned in France. There, he meets a monk named Anselm who helps him escape and they embark on a journey back to Scotland. Along the way, they encounter various challenges and adventures, including battles, romance, and treachery. The novel is based on the real-life story of a Scottish soldier named Norman Leslie who fought in the Battle of Baug�����. A Monk of Fife is a gripping tale of courage, loyalty, and perseverance set against the backdrop of one of Scotland's most tumultuous periods in history.It is not of my own will, nor for my own glory, that I, Norman Leslie, sometime of Pitcullo, and in religion called Brother Norman, of the Order of Benedictines, of Dunfermline, indite this book. But on my coming out of France, in the year of our Lord One thousand four hundred and fifty-nine, it was laid on me by my Superior, Richard, Abbot in Dunfermline, that I should abbreviate the Great Chronicle of Scotland.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
