A Vision of Judgment - Robert Southey - Bog

- To Which Is Added, a Vision of Judgment (1824)

Bag om A Vision of Judgment

""A Vision of Judgment"" is a book written by Robert Southey and originally published in 1821. The book is a poem that tells the story of the Last Judgment, in which God judges the souls of the dead. The poem is divided into three parts, each of which describes a different aspect of the judgment. The first part describes the scene of the judgment, with God sitting on his throne and the angels and the souls of the dead gathered around him. The second part describes the judgment itself, with God weighing the souls of the dead and determining their fate. The third part describes the aftermath of the judgment, with the souls of the righteous ascending to heaven and the souls of the damned descending to hell. In the 1824 edition of the book, Southey added a second poem, also titled ""A Vision of Judgment."" This second poem is a satire that mocks the idea of the Last Judgment and portrays God as a tyrant who delights in punishing sinners. The poem caused a great deal of controversy when it was first published, with many critics accusing Southey of blasphemy. Despite the controversy, ""A Vision of Judgment"" remains an important work of Romantic poetry and a powerful meditation on the nature of God, sin, and redemption. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
