Alone - Norman Douglas - Bog

Bag om Alone

Alone by Norman Douglas is a memoir about the author's experiences living on the island of Capri in the early 20th century. The book is divided into three parts, each detailing a different period of Douglas's life on the island. In the first part, he describes his arrival on Capri and his initial impressions of the island and its inhabitants. In the second part, he discusses his relationships with various people on the island, including artists, writers, and local residents. In the third part, he reflects on his time on Capri and his decision to leave the island. Throughout the book, Douglas provides vivid descriptions of the island's natural beauty and its unique culture, as well as his own thoughts and feelings about his experiences there. Overall, Alone is a fascinating account of one man's life on a beautiful and remote island, and a reflection on the nature of solitude and the human desire for connection. After an hour's contemplation of the beauties of nature I descended once more through that ilex grove to Serrone. And now it began to grow decidedly warm. The wide depression between this village and Olevano used to be timbered and is still known as la selva or la foresta. Vines now occupy the whole ground. If they had only left a few trees by the wayside! Walking along, I encountered a sportsman who said he was on the look-out for a hare. Always that hare! They might as well lie in wait for the Great Auk. Not long ago, an old visionary informed me that he had killed a hare beside the Ponte Milvio at Rome. Hares at Ponte Milvio! This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
