I årevis.
This kaleidoscopic exhibition catalog celebrates Lichtenstein's multifaceted career-from his iconic achievements in the Pop Art movement and beyond. Published to mark the centennial of Lichtenstein's birth, this retrospective volume is brimming with brilliant reproductions that highlight the entirety of the artist's oeuvre. It features the acclaimed works that helped establish 1960s pop art-panels inspired by comic strips and advertising, which send up societal stereotypes. It looks at his pioneering use of painted benday dots and carefully drawn and in-filled brushstrokes, his interiors and landscapes, re-stagings of still lifes, his expansion into sculpture and ceramics, and works that pay homage to famous artists such as Picasso, Monet, and Van Gogh. Throughout this magnificent catalog readers will come to appreciate not only Lichtenstein's vibrant and dynamic use of color, line, and texture, but also how his continuing confrontation with the visual language of popular culture and consumerism continues to resonate today.
Two decades of intricately layered works on paper from an artist known for his contemporary still lifesComprising 100 works on paper, Drawings: 2003-2023 is the most expansive collection of Jonas Wood's artistic practice to date. This body of work traces the artist's trajectory back to his early days in Los Angeles, where he worked alongside painter Laura Owens and sculptor Matt Johnson. It was during this formative period that Wood's distinct visual language began to take shape: a language that would come to define his mature practice. Drawing played a central role in Wood's process, serving as both preparatory sketches for his collages and paintings, as well as independent works of art in their own right. At the core of Wood's prolific output lies a deep appreciation for the handmade--a reverence reflected in his engagement with found photographs, manual projectors and half-erased pencil sketches. Although rendered in a flattened perspective, the resulting tableaux are deeply layered, revealing traces of the artist's hand, miscellaneous references and the transformative nature of various artistic media. The comprehensive catalog features an essay by Douglas Fogle and a conversation between Laura Owens and the artist. The Los Angeles-based artist Jonas Wood (born 1977) creates paintings, drawings and prints, which mostly comprise intricate still lifes and interior domestic scenes. Throughout his compositions, the artist draws from art history, memory, and the people, objects and interiors that comprise his life. His work is boldly colored, detailed and graphic, and often features basketballs, ceramics and lush plants.
"Camo, by photographer Thandiwe Muriu, is the first publication to chronicle the work of this international artist, celebrating the vibrant portraits she creates that combine cultural textiles and beauty ideologies. Muriu takes us on a colorful, reflective journey through her world as a woman living in modern Kenya as she reinterprets contemporary African portraiture." --

A new artist’s book, created by Gerhard Richter, that explores abstraction and chance in art and writing“The 100 Abstract Pictures shown here originated about five years ago, when I poured enamel paints on a fifty-by-fifty centimeter glass plate. The paints then flowed into one another without completely mixing. Thus they produced countless ephemeral abstract pictures, which I captured in photographs. These pictures are juxtaposed in the book with text formations that were generated at random.” —Gerhard Richter, 2023 With a career spanning more than sixty years, the renowned painter Gerhard Richter is one of the greatest artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Debuting alongside Richter's first exhibition at David Zwirner, featuring new abstract works created between 2016 and 2022, this book celebrates his continued dedication to experimentation and innovation. An artwork of its own, this intimate volume inspires both close looking and a beautiful interpretation of abstraction.
"Corita Kent, formerly Sister Mary Corita, is known for her exuberant, colorful serigraphs and her teaching, as evidenced in her lively art classes. As a Catholic nun from 1936 until 1968, Corita lived and worked in the Immaculate Heart of Mary community in Los Angeles. She taught lettering and layout, image finding, and art structure for 20 years in Immaculate Heart College's art department. There, she screened multiple films simultaneously, hosted guest thinkers including Saul Bass, Buckminster Fuller and John Cage, and guided the making of large-scale collaborative projects with students. Corita regularly took her students out for looking sessions at a used car lot or an art exhibition. While constantly looking and discovering visually, Corita shot thousands of 35 mm slides documenting references, the IHC milieu and the art department processes. For Corita, the vernacular environs of advertising, supermarkets and the city's media landscape were a source of inspiration and raw material. Her slide collection encompasses a wide range of subjects: cookies, coke bottles, toys, presents, experiments, projects, Mary's Day celebrations stemming from Corita's classroom, flowers, magazines, seeds, puppets, visits with Charles and Ray Eames, street signs, trade fairs, folk art, boxes, billboards and kites. Drawing from the Corita Art Center's vast slide collection, Ordinary Things Will Be Signs for Us embodies Corita's philosophy of looking"

The artist's most inspired works in one volume. Jean-Michel Basquiat-artist and art world provocateur-took New York City by storm with his powerful and complex works that relentlessly engaged with charged sociopolitical issues, including race, police brutality, and structural inequity. In this important volume, devoted to an exhibition at the Brant Foundation in their newly opened Manhattan outpost featuring the artist's key works, Basquiat's art returns to its East Village roots, contextualized for the first time in decades in the very neighborhood that served as one of his greatest inspirations. Dieter Buchhart, noted Basquiat scholar and curator, brings together one hundred of the artist's most important works, focusing on the best examples of the many subjects that informed Basquiat's work, from jazz, anatomy, sports figures, comics, classical literature, the African diaspora, and art history. The exhibition partially restages three of the artist's critical early shows, including an exhibition of the artist's paintings and drawings of heads at Robert Miller Gallery; his most important canvases from Gagosian Gallery's 1982 show in Los Angeles; and Basquiat's solo show at Fun Gallery in the East Village. Buchhart also considers in-depth the artist's so-called stretcher bar paintings, in which the normally hidden wooden supports for stretched canvases are exposed, works that have yet to be explored at length by scholars. In so doing, Buchhart offers a critical assessment of the enduring importance and legacy of the artist's work. (c) Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat. Licensed by Artestar, New York.
"'I was a writer, but not the writer I needed to be. For that I had to become a different person,' Robert Glèuck, widely acclaimed as a novelist and as a theorist of 'the new narrative,' recently told the Paris Review, in which a section of About Ed has appeared. About Ed is Glèuck's portrait of the artist Ed Aulerich-Sugai, his sometime lover, met in the seventies in San Francisco, when gay life emerged unabashedly from the closet. 'I wanted to find in Ed something to latch on to that was outside my egotism and fear, my threadbare relation to the world-a leap through Ed into lyric time,' Glèuck has said, and in this book that is both 'a novel and my version of an AIDS memoir' he wanted to capture the full range of his feelings for Ed: 'estranged from Ed, bored by him, moved by him.' It is a book about the life they lived together-art and writing and family and sex and death-and, composed over many decades, it is also a book about how the past continues to change in memory and to charge the present. 'What is the right question to ask about a life?' Glèuck asks, describing About Ed as a 'collaborative project,' since 'Ed helped me write this book.' Ed gave him 'notes to fashion a chapter about the day he was diagnosed so I could describe his experience from the inside,' and 'after Ed died, Daniel, Ed's partner, lent me Ed's dream journals.... He started writing them in 1970, the year that we met. We both used his journals, not as puzzles to solve the truth of a self but as a commons producing images that we harvested for paintings and poems. And fifty years later, there I was reading and copying out and running away from his dreams. Are they a condensed version of Ed? Shorthand? Distillation? Is he knowable and unknowable in the same degree sleeping or waking?' About Ed is a challenging and beautiful book by one of America's finest and most adventurous writers"

Through examples of their most personal creations -objects capable of affecting us emotionally, surprising us and making us think-, the artists reveal important details about their ceramic creations: how it was made, how it was shaped, which glaze and engobe coating they used to give the clay color and texture, the firing temperature of the kiln and the type of kiln chosen. The reader is provided with an illuminating glimpse into each artist's unique creative world, where they point out the defining features of their work and reveal some of the secrets that characterize their artistic processes.

She has curated exhibitions of Guston's work and written books including the memoir Night Studio, first published by Alfred A. Knopf in 1988. In 2022 the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced that more than two hundred Guston works from her collection would be gifted to the museum.

KarenBlixen er omdrejningspunktet i denne fortælling om kærlighed oglivsskæbne. I cirkler omkring hende bevæger sig syv mænd, som hverisær beretter om voldsomme og afgørende hændelser i derestilværelse, ofte med det erotiske som et gennemgåendetræk.Romanens syv fortællere er:WilhelmDinesen: Far til Karen. En rastløs og modig soldat.ThomasDinesen: Blixens bror, en nær og loyal ven.Denys FinchHatton: Hendes store kærlighed.Farah Aden: Blixenshushovmester i Afrika.Thorkild Bjørnvig: Digter og KarenBlixens nære ven.Otto Casparsson: En svensk tjener ogvagabond.Mortende Coninck: Den rige købmandssøn fra fortællingen ”EtFamilieselskab i Helsingør”.p { line-height: 115%; text-align: left; orphans: 2; widows: 2; margin-bottom: 0.25cm; direction: ltr; background: transparent }
Dennis Scholl uses repetition. Though he does not always paint the same picture, he repeatedly returns to the same point. The terrain he passes through could be a dream landscape from a night twenty years ago. 'Landscape' is suggestive of nature, but the reality portrayed here seems fake. It is more of a park, in which nature has been replicated. And Scholl is not alone here. There are others whom he encounters over and over. But they are no ordinary passers-by; their faces seem like masks - indeed, some of them do wear masks. Are these creatures without expression? My impression is that there are certain arrangements in place within this loose community. Few things are self-evident here. For the most part, there seems to be more of a skirting around the edges of what is directly obvious. The fingers I would use to point at it would need to have more digits than I have on my hand.
