Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child establishes the right to participation: children and adolescents are entitled to participate and to have their views taken into account in all issues affecting them in accordance to their age and maturity. The volume explores this right to participation in residential care. The impact of participation and complaint procedures in residential care facilities are evaluated by means of crucial results from an empirical study. How do these participation and complaints procedures work? The authors discuss crucial facilitators and barriers with regard to the implementation of children's rights to participate.
This book presents an Asian perspective on transformative science education in the context of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The chapters are written by contributors who practiced science education for sustainability in a research project entitled ¿Teacher Education for ESD in the Asia-Pacific Region¿ from 2017 to 2019, supported by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and the Japanese National Commission for UNESCO. The book showcases the contributors¿ innovations in science education for sustainability, presenting case studies of science teaching and learning, science curriculum and assessment, science education in collaboration with local communities, and science teacher education. Embodying Asian sustainability education paradigms, policies, and practices, these case studies depict the diversity and uniqueness of natural, social, and cultural contexts in Asia, while demonstrating their commonalities. Through examining these case studies, this book aims to provide examples for praxis, and prospects, for new science classes, curricula, and teacher education in implementing education for sustainable development.

This edited book focuses on the central and up-to-date issues that represent some of the most relevant challenges and limitations of International Learning Assessments (ILSAs). It specifically sheds light on the general effects of the discontinuation of face-to-face education on students at diverse academic levels during the COVID-19 pandemic.Through the lens of the most relevant experts of the field, it highlights the asymmetric effects on students based on family income, education level, or employment, imposing a heavy toll on those with less resources. It raises issues regarding the impact on the mental health of students and education professionals due to school closures. Modern education is shifting its focus from just scores to detailed, qualitative feedback. Such comprehensive insights help students identify both strengths and growth areas, making assessments more constructive. This book is aimed for researchers in the field of educationalassessments, graduate and postgraduate students, policy makers, and anyone interested in making informed decisions regarding ILSAs. COVID-19 brought immense educational challenges, it also presented an unprecedented opportunity: to reassess and reform existing systems, steering towards assessments that are both fair and empowering.
This book examines how the unique perspectives of BIPOC faculty and students must be integrated into the undergraduate curriculum to expose students of color to education abroad experiences, enhance cultural awareness and sensitivity, and lend to a broader diversity and inclusion perspective. This edited volume, written by authors of color, argues that education abroad programs not only provide essential academic and cultural enrichment but can also be an important nexus of innovation. When approached within a creative, interdisciplinary, and holistic framework, these programs are ripe with opportunities to engage various constituencies and a potent source of strategies for bolstering diversity, recruitment, retention, and graduation. Despite a tendency to view study abroad as a luxurious option for persons with wealth and means, the editors and their authors argue that global education should be thought of as a fundamental and integral part of higher education, for all students, in a global era.
Like his mother Herminie, who was the pupil of Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun and Louis David, Paul-Etienne Courier de Méré (hereafter 'PECM') was feeling since his childhood an immoderate attraction for painting, that incitating him to integrate the school of the family friend called Jean-Dominique Ingres who, soon, considered him as his preferred pupil. But, such painting studies ceased when the king Louis-Philippe I, the best friend of his father the great pamphleteer Paul-Louis Courier de Méré assassinated a decade ago, shall oblige his godson PECM to leave the Ingres's school for integrating with his son Henry the Duke of Aumale the Military School of Saint-Cyr and later on, his Etat-Major. In 1852, PECM shall integrate the Napoléon III's Etat-Major that obliging him to participate to the Crimea War in quality of aide-de-camp of the Prince Napoléon, the emperor's cousin. So, obliged to live again in Paris, he shall meet his childhood fellow the Orientalisme's co-inventor Maxime Du Camp who, since this time shall encourage him to forget classical principles for pre-impressionnist ones. Here, because benefiting of a large fortune, PECM has never sold any piece of a work fully conserved in his family up to the year 2015 when the arson of his 'la Clouterie' property reduced in ashes 36 paintings of his classical period (cf. Wikipedia article). Hopefully, as explained in the following biography, dozens ans dozens of PECM's works mainly dating of his pre-impressionnist period are always secured in their native studio located in the PECM's home called 'les Berruries' and that, under the guard of his great-grand son Henry Courier de Méré.Henry Courier de Méré ('HCM') is an internationnaly recognized inventor in right to pretend, for instance, to have cut by quite an half the energy worldwide dedicated to lighting and that, since the 90', when his basic invention of the 'high frequency series resonance electronic ballasts' has advantageously replaced Claude's ferromagnetic ballasts energizing fluorescent tube lamps (FTLs) since 1910 and authorized the manufacturing of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) having pushed out the market incandescent Coolidge's tungsten bulbs exploited since 1906.2 years ago, it's due to a medullary ischemia awaking his atavistic writing pulses, if HCM shall be incitated to leave his oscilloscope for the no
This book offers a unique blend of writing from a broad range of international perspectives, showing interdisciplinary research approaches to decolonising curriculum knowledge. With a focus on the intellectual, emotional, economic, and political reversal of colonial injustices, the decolonial research and writing in this book challenge dominant viewpoints and assumptions of curriculum knowledge by amplifying and disseminating the knowledge and perspectives of peoples that curriculum knowledge has historically silenced and marginalized. The chapters in this book allow the reader to learn from the historical, social, political, cultural, and educational contexts of the UK, Nepal, South Africa, Namibia, Australia, Colombia, Canada, Thailand, Mauritius, Poland, Russia, Norway, and the Netherlands. This internationality provides the reader with a multitude of research themes and critical analytical perspectives for seeing how epistemic power permeates as cultural imperialism in education policies and practices across the world.

The stakes in getting it right in our schools have never been higher--not just for the individual teachers but for the entire educational community. Today's teachers are at the heart of shaping our future by guiding the minds that will lead, innovate, and inspire. Yet, they often grapple with a system that can be constraining and unyielding. The weight of expectations and the ever-shifting educational landscape call for a responsive, adaptable approach. It's more than a professional necessity; it's a moral imperative to equip teachers with the strategies, tools, and confidence they need to excel. Effectively Designed Instruction is a dynamic approach to teaching and learning that pulls together key components from all the major educational frameworks in use today and organizes them into four easy-to-understand themes:Building InteractionsDesigning ExperiencesPresenting ContentAccessibility and InclusionEach theme provides teachers with actionable strategies that can be implemented in any learning environment: from traditional, in-person learning, to online learning, and everything in between. With the knowledge gained from this book, you can unlock the full potential of your classroom and create a positive and engaging learning environment that benefits all students.Accessibility and Inclusion

This edited volume-the first book devoted to the topic of contract cheating-brings together the perspectives of leading scholars presenting novel research. Contract cheating describes the outsourcing of students' assessments to third parties such that the assignments or exams students submit are not their own work. While research in this area has grown over the past five years, the phenomenon has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Themes addressed in this book include the definition of contract cheating, its prevalence in higher education, and what motivates students to engage in it. Chapter authors also consider various interventions that can be used to address contract cheating's threat to academic integrity in higher education including: assessment practice, education, detection strategies, policy design, and legal interventions.

Hope is measurable, and teachable. Tested and approved by teens, the 'Hopeful Minds® Teen Hpeguide is a 12-module workbook that introduces the Five Keys to Shine Hope¿: Stress Skills, Happiness Habits, Inspired Actions, Nourishing Networks, and Eliminating Challenges. This comprehensive approach empowers teens to navigate challenges, embrace positivity, and empower resilience. The workbook employs a peer-to-peer teaching style, encouraging both individual reflection and group discussions. Interactive elements such as engaging activities, games, creative expressions, worksheets, and puzzles enhance the learning experience. The workbook itself is the curriculum, so educators are not necessary for use. We encourage having facilitators, yet it is designed for anyone to use.It is based on the award-winning Hopeful Minds®program, and is intended for teens to do together. As in the US alone 57% of teen girls are identifying with persistent hopelessness, we encourage entire schools and classrooms to do the program. It is a proactive, protective approach to mental health. These are skills all youth need to learn, and are able to be implemented in classrooms, after-school programs, places of worship, and more. Anywhere that teens gather, this program is encouraged for use.As hopelessness predicts violence, addiction, self-harm, and suicide, the aim is to ensure all know how to hope. Hope is a protective factor for anxiety and depression, and those higher in hope are more likely to live long lives, be engaged at work, graduate from school, and have positive relationships. Hope is a necessary skill for all we want in life. The program is also available for bulk license to be distributed to entire schools, companies, organizations, communities, or cities.
