Deshalb setzt sich die Arbeit mit den Forschungsfragen auseinander, was das Störungsbild des selektiven Mutismus kennzeichnet und wie Kinder mit selektivem Mutismus in Kindertageseinrichtungen gefördert werden können.Die Fähigkeit zur verbalen Kommunikation wird schon früh in Kindertageseinrichtungen vorausgesetzt. Was eigentlich ganz selbstverständlich klingt, ist jedoch für Kinder mit selektivem Mutismus oft nicht möglich. Selektiver Mutismus stellt ein noch relativ unbekanntes und selten verbreitetes Störungsbild dar, welches den Angst- und Verhaltensstörungen zugeordnet wird. Kinder mit selektivem Mutismus sind trotz intakter Hör- und Sprechfähigkeit nicht dazu in der Lage, sich innerhalb bestimmter Situationen oder gegenüber bestimmten Personen verbal zu äußern.Pädagogische Fachkräfte können einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Früherkennung von selektiv mutistischen Störungen leisten und dazu beitragen, dass diagnostische und therapeutische Maßnahmen frühzeitig eingeleitet werden. Aber auch der Ort der Kindertagesstätte selbst kann zu einem Ort der Förderung selektiv mutistischer Kinder und der Begleitung und Beratung ihrer Eltern werden, wenn pädagogische Fachkräfte dazu bereit sind, neue pädagogische Wege zu gehen und sich auf andere Formen der Kommunikation einzulassen.

Critical perspectives are important to reveal how education is not a neutral, mechanistic process of cultivating the knowledge and skills of future generation. Instead, it is a battleground in which competing visions, ideologies, discourses, religious values, and political interests struggle for dominance in a given society. In each of the sections, contributors draw upon specific case studies and employ critical theories to analyze power relations or to identify and destabilize underlying structures, dominant discourses, hegemonic knowledge, policies, or practices. Some authors also highlight data evidencing inequities, inequalities, or injustices in Indonesian education system. This Element explores multi-faceted linkages between feeding and relationship formation based on ethnographic case studies in Morocco, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Costa Rica. Research demonstrates that there are many culturally valued ways of feeding children, contradicting the idea of a single universally optimal feeding standard. It demonstrates further that in many parts of the world, feeding plays a central role in bonding and relationship formation, something largely overlooked in current developmental theories. Analysis shows that feeding contributes to relationship formation through what we call proximal, transactional, and distal dimensions. This Element argues that feeding practices can lead to qualitatively distinct forms of relationships. It has important theoretical and practical implications, calling for the expansion of attachment theory to include feeding and body-centered caregiving and significant changes to global interventions currently based on 'responsive feeding.'
