The original theory of capital cost and capital structure put forward by Nobel Prize Winners Modigliani and Miller has since been modified by many authors, and this book discusses some of them. The book¿s authors have created general theory of capital cost and capital structure ¿ the Brusov¿FilatoväOrekhova (BFO) theory, which generalizes the Modigliani¿Miller theory to encompass companies of an arbitrary age (and arbitrary lifetime). Despite the availability of this more general theory, the classical Modigliani¿Miller theory is still widely used in practice. In this book, the authors for the first time generalize it for cases of practical relevance: for the case of variable profit; for the case of advance tax-on-profit payments and interest on debt payments; for the case of several tax-on-profit and interest on debt payments per period; and for the combination of all three effects. These generalizations lead to valuable theoretical results as well as significantly widen of practical application this theory in practice and increase of the quality of finance management of the company. As well, the book investigates the applications of said results in corporate finance, investments, taxation and ratings, where employing a generalized Modigliani¿Miller theory can be very fruitful.
Family firms are a significant economic force in the United States and worldwide. There are 5.5 million family businesses in the United States, which account for 63% of employment, 57% of GDP, and create 75% of all new jobs (Kinkade, 2011). Further, family businesses are not homogeneous economic entities. They range in size from small owner-managed firms to large multinational corporations and are found across a variety of industries. Family businesses' prevalence and economic contribution make them a very important source of economic development and growth

This book introduces updated information about requirements and standards, including the 2019 editions of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) NQA-1 Quality Assurance Program Requirements for Nuclear Facility Applications and ASME BPVC Sections I; IV; and VIII, Divisions 1 and 2. It provides a detailed and useful discussion of the practical application of risk-based supplier auditing principles. It can be a primer for those new to the profession of supplier auditing, and it also shares tips and best practices that would benefit experienced auditors as well. The first section explores supplier management, supplier auditing, and the supplier audit process. The second section discusses the skills, both traditional and nontraditional, needed to ensure a successful supplier audit. Business ethics are more than moral values and principles that determine our conduct in the business universe. It refers to the commercial activities, either with other business houses or with a single customer. They can be given to all facets of the business; from generation of an approximation to its sale. Line of work uses the company for its resources and functioning, thereby obligating it to the benefit of thecompany. A straightforward explanation of root cause analysis and systems thinking, illustrating, with real-world examples and first-hand accounts, why things can 'slip through our fingers' and what to do to reduce the chances of things going off track.Beyond the Five Whys summarises, for the first time, many of the tried and tested ways of understanding problems using insights from aviation, high reliability organisations and a range of thought-provoking sources. The book provides readers with a clear and structured explanation how to analyse setbacks and head off problems in the first place. It will challenge much of the received wisdom, such as the idea there can be one root cause or that a person or bad culture could be a root cause.Specific areas covered:* Learn what root causes are, how they differ from immediate and contributing causes and why it's so important to go beyond the Five Whys technique for root cause analysis.* Recalibrate the way you think about things going wrong, incorporating insights from systems thinking, so you can be clearer what 'cultural' or systemic problems mean in practice.* Learn about the eight principal ways things can slip through our fingers.* Go beyond the blame game and firefighting to avoid the never ending cycle of repeating issues.* Strengthen your ability to read the output of a 'lessons learned' or enquiry report.* Get a fresh perspective, using these techniques, on why the Titanic tragedy turned out so badly, and understand the numerous parallels between what happened then and a range of recent setbacks we have seen, such as the Covid 19 pandemic.* Consider the broader application of these techniques to some of the challenges we face in the 21st century.Beyond the Five Whys also contains supplemental guidance how to make improvements in an organisation. It is of value to business managers and those in specialist roles such as GRC, ESG, risk, compliance, quality, project management, H&S, IT, and internal audit roles.

This volume explores the impact of good governance upon social sectors' development in India and other selected economies of the world.Economic development in the true sense depends on the development of different social sectors like education, healthcare, gender equality, etc., as well as economic factors. Good governance makes the sectors perform well on the one hand, and helps in economic growth and development on the other. Conversely, bad or weak governance in the form of corruption and low effectiveness of the governments, may lead to poor performance of the sectors, and low growth and backwardness of the economies. This book explores the associations between different social sectors' performances with quality of governance, and growth and development of different economies and groups in detail and establishes theoretical and empirical examinations for the individual economies and groups from the different corners of the globe with the help of new theories and latest data. This book will be useful for students and researchers in the fields of Economics, Sociology, Political Studies, Public Finance, International Relations, Social Sciences as well as policy makers and think tanks.
Green House Gas Emissions Reporting and Management in Global Top Emitting Countries and Companies increases our understanding of GHG emissions and documents evidence for policy formulation aimed at reducing the accumulation of such emissions.
Throughout Don Benbow's extensive career, teaching mathematics and statistical courses to college students and corporate employees, one common question always popped up: how do you fix statistical errors in quality? Most textbooks and courses tend to emphasize how to perform statistical analysis and give little attention to errors that can occur in the process. This book intends to teach readers how to avoid common pitfalls by providing examples and scenarios based on similar real-world events. The book also provides caveats (or quick tips) to help readers navigate their way through statistical methodology.
