The quintessential case-based review to prep for and master ABR examsThe American Board of Radiology Core, Certifying, and Neuroradiology Subspecialty Exams test an individual's knowledge and understanding of anatomy, pathophysiology, and physics concepts important in diagnostic imaging. For many residents, fellows, and practicing radiologists, preparation for these exams involves several months to years of reading text, interpreting images, and answering countless questions. Neuroradiology Q&A for the Radiology Boards, edited by neuroradiologist Michael Iv, features contributions from other academic neuroradiologists at Stanford University who are passionate about education and paying it forward. The primary goals of this book are to help current and future generations of radiologists ace the neuroradiology section of these exams and improve their clinical skills. The reader-friendly compilation of cases, questions, and answers reflects the invaluable insights of neuroradiologists who recently experienced the arduous journey of studying and sitting for the ABR exams. The book consists of a collection of 100 "standard difficulty" and "challenging" cases organized by the categories of brain, spine, and head and neck. A total 70 cases covering a wide range of brain conditions and diseases include 20 challenging cases. Spine and head and neck pathologies are represented by 15 cases each, both of which include 5 challenging cases. All of the cases illustrate specific pathologies and teaching points likely to be encountered on the exams and in the reading room.Key FeaturesCases encompass every area of neuroradiology and cover the full age spectrumConsistently formatted cases feature two or three high-yield images, followed by three multiple choice questions that assess comprehension of imaging diagnosis, histopathology, and managementDetailed explanations for correct and incorrect answers enhance understanding and acquisition of knowledge This must-have study guide will help radiologists prepare for and ace the Core, Certifying, and/or Neuroradiology Subspecialty ABR exams and improve their clinical knowledge, which ultimately leads to improved patient care. This print book includes complimentary access to a digital copy on https://medone.thieme.com.

This book acts as a primer for radiographers upon performing computed tomography (CT) examinations. The focus resides in radiation physics, radiobiology, anatomy, imaging protocols and image evaluation. It seeks to provide readers insight into the practical and innovative approaches within CT, backed up with key literature and examples in practice. Recent innovations and the importance of new technology to acquire enhanced quality remain a focal point. These are essential in understanding the importance of dose optimization, patient anatomy and common pathology observed. Patient care will remain central in this book, supported with a dedicated chapter discussing effective communication, patient education, informed consent, coupled with the assessment of laboratory results and vital signs. The editors draw from recent publications and clinical expertise, supported with the growing trend of technological advances utilized within the CT environment. Critically, this volume focuses on the role of CT for an array of audiences but, more specifically, undergraduate and postgraduate radiographers worldwide.

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2011 in the subject Medicine - Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, grade: 4.7, University of Michigan, language: English, abstract: Radiation, the emission of rays of high frequency and wavelengths, has been in use for more than 100 years. It has been used in the field of medicine since the early 1900s when scientists like Marie Curie, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Science for her cutting edge work in the field of radioactivity, discovered elements with radioactive properties such as radium and polonium. Since then, several new innovations have been made in the use of radiation in medicine. Radiation is majorly used in the treatment of cancers and malignant cells. And simply, radiotherapy can be defined as the use of ionizing radiation in the control and eradication of malignant cancer cells. It is to be differentiated from radiology which refers to the application of ionizing radiation in the diagnosis of diseases. Radiology makes use of radiation in the imaging of the human body. There are two types of radiation, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. Ionizing radiation has more applications in the field of radiotherapy than non-ionizing radiation. There are machines that can carefully measure doses of ionizing radiation and then direct the beams at the area of the body in which the cancerous cells are situated. These machines focus the high energy beams on the cells so as to either incapacitate them or totally destroy them. In most cases, these high energy beams damages certain parts of the cells, especially the DNA in the nucleus, thereby making these cells unable to divide and replicate. Unlike normal cells which can recover and repair themselves when damaged by radiation, cancerous cells cannot. And so they die.

Clinical Oncology is a guide for oncology residents. An oncologist's work starts from the point of diagnosis to achieving a cure or palliation by using the available resources most meaningfully. Oncology examinations aim at finding how much a trainee is fluent in such work before gifting him/her to the society. This needs the idea of pathology, basics of hematology, radiology, and genetics. All these important topics are addressed in the form of 12 short chapters. Case discussions are made interesting by sharing important and relevant points in eight long cases in question and answer format, including history, differential diagnosis, initial investigations, and their logical utilization in approaching a diagnosis. We hope this book is equally helpful for those preparing for oncology entrance examinations and first-year residents as well as final-year students who are going to give practical examinations and ESMO examination. Key Features A clinically focused book packed with all the essential information to help in timely diagnosis and management of patients Explains the important concepts for quick revision for the viva day A useful compendium for ESMO exam, which is globally undertaken by oncology residents and young oncologists Dr Venkata Pradeep Babu Koyyala, MD, DNB, ECMO is Assistant Professor, Department of Medical Oncology, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and ESMO Fellow, Princess Margaret Cancer Hospital, Toronto, Canada.
