This book presents artificial intelligence applications that may help in detecting disease, defining tissue characterization (benign vs malignant), staging and correlation with molecular biomarkers. Originally positioned as a means for noninvasive molecular phenotyping and quantification in the 1970s, PET's technological improvements in the 2000s generated renewed interest in quantification, which has grown over the last five years. This progress is parallel with the development of Artificial intelligence (AI) systems for Oncology which aim at providing the best possible treatment to patients suffering from lung, breast, brain, prostate, liver and other types of cancer. The chapters provide an overview of the use of AI in PET/CT imaging for various types of cancer, and it will be an invaluable tool especially for nuclear medicine physicians and oncologists.

In this issue of PET Clinics, guest editor Dr. Rathan M. Subramaniam brings his considerable expertise to the topic of Clinical PET/CT: Quarter-Century Transformation of Oncology. The first PET-CT prototype for clinical evaluation was installed at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 1998, and combined PET/CT scanners perform almost all PET scans today. These combined scans help pinpoint abnormal metabolic activity and may provide more accurate diagnoses than the two scans performed separately. In this issue, top experts discuss specific cancers where PET/CT is used and how it has transformed diagnosis in that area.Contains 14 relevant, practice-oriented topics on PET/CT transformation of oncology, including breast cancer, hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancer, gastric and colonic cancers, multiple myeloma, prostate cancer, and more.Provides in-depth clinical reviews on how PET/CT has transformed oncology over the last 25 years, offering actionable insights for clinical practice. Presents the latest information on this timely, focused topic under the leadership of experienced editors in the field. Authors synthesize and distill the latest research and practice guidelines to create clinically significant, topic-based reviews.

Comparing Nuclear Propulsion Technologies for Crewed Missions to MarsCurrent chemical propulsion systems are limited in their ability to support crewed missions to Mars due to their low propellant efficiency and long mission times. Nuclear propulsion technologies offer a potential solution to these challenges, as they are capable of producing higher thrust and propellant efficiency than chemical rockets. This paper compares three nuclear propulsion technologies for crewed missions to Mars: nuclear electric propulsion (NEP), nuclear thermal propulsion (NTP), and nuclear fusion propulsion (NFP). Each technology has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the best choice for a crewed Mars mission will depend on a number of factors, including mission requirements, cost, and risk.NEP systems are the most mature of the three technologies, and they have already been used successfully in a number of space missions. NEP systems use a nuclear reactor to generate electricity, which is then used to power an electric thruster. NEP systems are very efficient, but they produce relatively low thrust. As a result, NEP systems require longer mission times than other nuclear propulsion technologies.NTP systems are less mature than NEP systems, but they offer the potential for higher thrust and shorter mission times. NTP systems use a nuclear reactor to heat a propellant gas, which is then expelled through a nozzle to produce thrust. NTP systems are more efficient than chemical rockets, but they are also more complex and expensive to develop.NFP systems are the most advanced of the three technologies, but they are also the most speculative. NFP systems would use the fusion of atomic nuclei to generate energy, which could then be used to power a variety of propulsion systems. NFP systems have the potential to offer even higher thrust and shorter mission times than NTP systems, but they are still in the early stages of development.

The purpose of this atlas is to illustrate how to achieve reliable diagnoses when confronted by the different abnormalities, or ¿disease patterns¿, that may be visualized on CT scans of the chest. The task of pattern recognition has been greatly facilitated by the advent of high-technology CT such as helical and multidetector CT (MDCT) and dual-energy CT (DECT), and the focus of the book is very much on the role of state-of-the-art MDCT. A wide range of disease patterns and distributions are covered, with emphasis on the typical imaging characteristics of the various focal and diffuse lung diseases. In addition, clinical information relevant to differential diagnosis is provided and the underlying gross and microscopic pathology is depicted, permitting CT¿pathology correlation. The entire information relevant to each disease pattern is also tabulated for ease of reference. This book will be an invaluable handy tool that will enable the reader to quickly and easily reach a diagnosis appropriate to the pattern of lung abnormality identified on CT scans. And in this second edition, some more signs and several new diseases and their pattern have been developed and updated. They will be provided with imaging, clinical relevance and CT-pathology correlation. Moreover, the chapters and disease patterns in their order of presentation shall be somewhat changed for readers¿ easy legibility and understanding.

Ultrasound is a diagnostic method that uses high-intensity sound waves to produce the images of structures within the body. It serves as a valuable source of information for several purposes, including diagnosis of various diseases and monitoring the course of pregnancy. Ultrasound can also be used as an image guidance tool during certain medical procedures. The images generated by an ultrasound are known as sonogram. Ultrasound can be categorized into three main types, which includes pregnancy or prenatal ultrasound, diagnostic ultrasound, and ultrasound guidance for procedures. There are several procedures that need ultrasound guidance, such as guiding needle placement to sample fluid or tissue from joints, tendons, muscles, transplant organs, etc. Lesion localization procedures, embryo transfer for in vitro fertilization and nerve blocks are some other medical procedures that make the use of ultrasound guidance. Ultrasound is also used for the management of patients undergoing critical care. The diagnosis and assessment of various medical conditions such as pulmonary edema, pneumothorax and deep vein thrombosis can be done in a rapid manner through ultrasound. This book unravels the recent studies on ultrasound imaging. It strives to provide a fair idea about its applications in critical care. This book is appropriate for students seeking detailed information in this area as well as for experts.

Ultrasound refers to high frequency sound waves which are higher than the upper audible limit of human hearing. These sound waves are used in a variety of fields, such as diagnostic imaging, ultrasonic devices and non-destructive testing of structures and products. In clinical use, ultrasound is used to capture live images of internal structures of the body. The point of care ultra sound is the use of ultrasound in an emergency situation, for making decisions regarding immediate patient care. It is used to diagnose medical conditions and injuries, where diagnostic methods that are utilized conventionally would consume more time and increase the risk to the health of the patient. The point of care ultrasound is also helpful in monitoring the patient's response to the therapeutic interventions. This book provides significant information of point of care ultrasound to help develop a good understanding of this diagnostic method. A number of latest researches have been included to keep the readers up-to-date with the global concepts in this area of medical imaging.

Radiation therapy refers to a technique used for treating cancer with the help of high energy charged particles. It is one of the three major modalities utilized for the treatment of malignant diseases, the other two modalities being chemotherapy and surgery. Radiotherapy utilizes ionizing radiation to treat cancer and is significantly reliant on modern technology. It is also dependent on the joint efforts of a number of medical specialties, such as radiation oncology and medical physics, whose coordinated team approach has a significant impact on the outcome of the treatment. Radiation therapy for cancer requires an understanding of radiation physics along with the interaction of ionizing radiation with human tissue. It is utilised as a primary treatment for cancer, and can be given individually or in combination with other treatments like medications or chemotherapy. This book explores all the important aspects of radiation therapy in the present day scenario. It is a valuable compilation of topics, ranging from the basic to the most complex advancements in this form of cancer therapy. This book is appropriate for students seeking detailed information in this area as well as for experts.
