The publication of this volume marks the Ten Year Anniversary of the Postcolonialism and Religions series. In intersectional and interdisciplinary perspectives, the chapters of this book constitute a complex whole: a volume that does justice to the justice-seeking origins of Latin American Liberation Theology, philosophy, and sociology as it emerged in the 1960s-70s and its development to the present. What drives this book is a common spirit and conviction: Liberation Theologies of the Global South remain relevant to the sociocultural and geopolitical contexts of today, which remain ensconced in the dynamics, exclusions, and resistances that gave rise to Liberation Theologies six decades ago. Today we may speak of interculturality, of borderlands, of in-betweenness, in ways that complicate, confirm, affirm, and interrogate the ¿underside of history¿, and the spaces that are marginalized but de-centered centers of liberation struggle ¿ within, alongside, underneath, over-against societal projects that claim and exclude them, and that represent some of the actual challenges and opportunities to liberation.

This book presents the first study and translation of the ancient text Zhouxun (Instructions of the Zhou). Lost early but mentioned in the history of the Han dynasty, a copy appeared recently and was published as part of the Peking University collection. Fragen zur Beziehung von Religion und Politik, von Georgischer Orthodoxer Kirche und Nation sowie von Sexualität und LGBTQI*-Rechten werden im heutigen Georgien zu Arenen von Auseinandersetzungen und Konflikten zwischen verschiedenen gesellschaftlichen Gruppen. Einen Brennpunkt solcher Spannungen bildet der 17. Mai 2013, an dem eine von der LGBTQI*-Gemeinschaft organisierte Demonstration durch eine von Anhänger*innen und Klerikalen der Georgischen Orthodoxen Kirche angeführte große Menge von Gegendemonstrant* innen gewaltsam aufgelöst wurde. Das vorliegende Buch erforscht diese Kontroversen und Konflikte und baut dabei auf neueren interdisziplinären Forschungsperspektiven wie den Secular Studies und den Vielfältigen Säkularitäten. This book uses Karl Barth¿s Der Römerbrief (1922) as a prism through which to explore the role of religion and its interactions with cultural and political thought in the turbulent interwar period in Europe. One of the most influential books in twentieth-century protestant theology, Der Römerbrief found Barth arguing that the crisis of the time was grounded in an even more profound crisis that pertained to the human condition as such. While much research has been conducted on Der Römerbrief, most of it has focused on the book¿s explicit theology. The aim of the present volume is to mark the centenary of this seminal book with a broader investigation into the movements of thought within Der Römerbrief and its reception and impact within its cultural and intellectual context. This broader approach by a range of Northern European researchers brings attention to interconnections between cultural and theological movements intimes of crisis.

Vor allem am Präzedenzfall und zentralen Beispiel der seit 2006 eingerichteten Deutschen Islam Konferenz werden die Chancen und Risiken, Problemkreise und Dilemmata der deutschen Islampolitik aufgezeigt sowie die bislang gefundenen Dialog- und Kooperationsformen zwischen dem deutschen Staat und den hierzulande lebenden Muslim*innen kritisch analysiert. Die Beiträge reflektieren im Einzelnen die nach wie vor vorhandenen Defizite in der Gleichbehandlung von muslimischen und nicht-muslimischen Religionsgemeinschaften, die unterschiedlichen Interessen und Missverständnisse zwischen den beteiligten Akteur*innen der DIK sowie künftige Möglichkeiten und Hürden für eine Diskurs auf Augenhöhe. Sie thematisieren dabei außerdem die Frage, inwieweit der deutsche Staat in der Behandlung der Muslim*innen seine religionspolitischen Kompetenzen bislang ausschöpft oder überschreitet.

Using semi-structured interviews with 122 young Muslims in Australia, the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America (USA) from diverse ethnic backgrounds, this book investigates the lived reality of young Muslims from their own perspectives. It explores their ideas of key Islamic and secular issues, their struggles, world views, triumphs, how the stigmatized group negotiates their identity in these three English language speaking Western countries, 20 years after 9/11. The key aspect of this book is to transcend binaries and reductionisms by exploring what Muslims actually think and say rather than intellectual articulations on them. The book presents a very detailed account of these young Muslims in the Anglophone West on their political beliefs, their knowledge and understanding of sharia law, their interest and participation in local and transnational political activism, their positive and negative feelings about their own communities, and indeed how they define theircommunity.
