End Time Politics shows how popular beliefs about God's impending judgment on the world--rooted in millenarian ideologies, Cold-War grandstanding, racial antipathy, and nuclear build-up--shaped an economic movement that led to white evangelicals' unflinching support of Donald Trump.

'Compellingly explains the anti-trans alliance of radical feminists and conservative evangelicals. Intellectually rich yet accessible' Pippa Catterall, Professor, University of Westminster and Chair of AIDS Memory UK'We live in a time when anti-trans politics is becoming increasingly dehumanising and dangerous. Reading this illuminating book will help the open-minded, open-hearted Christian reader hear, encounter, and love their trans neighbours. I learned much from this book' David P. Gushee, Distinguished University Professor of Christian Ethics, Mercer UniversityFor decades, conservative evangelicals and so-called gender critical feminists have worked hand-in-hand to oppose trans liberation. But how did this alliance come about? What makes it tick? And how can trans people and allies respond? In Gender Heretics, Rebecca Jane Morgan tackles this reactionary alliance head on. With unique insight, she explores how theological arguments snaked their way from anti-trans feminist tracts into the everyday practices of evangelical churches today, and how the unlikely alliance remains strong in spite of seemingly irreconcilable worldviews. Shedding light on the roots of today's transphobic backlash, she provides crucial tools to overcome it, offering a hopeful way forward for Christians and advocating for a full recalibration of evangelical thought on gender identity and trans activism.Rebecca Jane Morgan is a transfeminist and evangelical Christian, a historian of modern Britain, popular culture, and queer identities.

The themes of Naturocracy could be interesting for a wider audience around the globe; reading it requires no specialised academic background. Not getting attached to anything or anyone is tremendously important in order to grasp the essence of the book. Those who think rationally and who do not want their daily lives to be dictated by others may find it a valuable read. This book is about religious brokers who deceive and control people in the name of God. It raises many basic questions about the role of religio-politicians who divide humankind in the name of religion to create disharmony among peaceful people in a society. Religion is a completely personal affair. Nobody needs any religious traders to know what is right and what is wrong. Each human being can understand the language of nature independently without explanation from any spoken human languages.I have striven to unearth what makes people religious. Those who do not even understand what a tiny creature like the humble bee is, how can they define its creator? I have always wondered about this. If the creator of this mysterious universe had given any holy book for mankind to follow, then he would have clarified the existing fragmentary or contradictory statements in it. But how can preachers clarify and even correct the words of the Almighty? How did they know the mind of God when they did not know about themselves? Can there be any greater sinners than those who lie and commit crimes under the religious umbrella? Against the evils of society, there should be a nature-inspired political platform for my motherland where people of all colours and creeds can live together in harmony without imposing their religious convictions on others.Who is ruling a country is not so important for the ordinary people, but how it is being ruled is of paramount importance. The economic scale, which measures the rich and poor countries of the world, is inappropriate to measure the joy and sorrow of their people. Common people all over the earth believe in living in true peace and happiness rather than with material comforts. The more we interfere with nature, the more we will suffer for it. The root of this is the relentless desire for more pleasure and power. We must respect and accept natural laws as we are not above the laws of nature. In nature, there is no such thing as rich or poor. People in the financial economy are arbitrarily putting a monetary value on the natural economy which makes the natural economy unsustainable.Once you have the picture in your mind's eye, you will lucidly understand that the greatest damage being done to our planet today is being done by humans. On no account must we work anymore against nature but together with it.
"I needed these poems to cut through my own looping thoughts and to invite me to sit with my own grief, pain, anger, and-surprisingly-my joy at breaking free."-D.L. Mayfield, author of Unruly Saint: Dorothy Day's Radical Vision and Its Challenge for Our TimesAfter author Marla Taviano wrote unbelieve, a book of poems chronicling her faith deconstruction, her plan was to move on from white evangelical Christianity to bigger, lovelier, more all-embracing thoughts. But she couldn't do it. Why? Because she was still jaded-and knew there was work left to do.For those of us who are picking up pieces of life and faith and figuring out how to heal and move forward, jaded: a poetic reckoning with white evangelical christian indoctrination is a collection of poems-short, thoughtful, brave, and spicy-about getting stuff off our chests. Covering topics like evangelical scare tactics, sex and purity, patriarchy, white supremacy, and how the church treats the queer community, these poems say more in fewer words and with zero sugar-coating. With an appendix jam-packed with books to read on your journey, this is a book that will open you up and take you forward. Warning: you might not be able to put it down.Jaded is this former good Christian girl's offering-a labor of anger and love. We might not need to stay here forever, but we need this now.
Two unprecedented, striking developments form part of the reality of many Latin Americans. Recent decades have seen the dramatic rise of a new religious pluralism, namely the spread of Pentecostal Christianity - Catholic and Protestant alike - and the growth of indigenous revitalization movements. This study analyzes these major transitions, asking what roles ethnicity and ethnic identities play in the contemporary process of religious pluralism, such as the growth of the Protestant Pentecostal and neo-Pentecostal movements, the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, and the indigenous Maya movement in Guatemala. This book aims to provide an understanding of the agenda of religious movements, their motivations, and their impact on society. Such a pursuit is urgently needed in Guatemala, a postwar country experiencing acrimonious religious competition and a highly contentious debate on religious pluralism. This volume is relevant to scholars and students of Latin American Studies, Sociology of Religion, Anthropology, Practical Theology, and Political Sciences.
In Square Peg, well-respected educators, pastors, and ministry leaders demonstrate the distinct differences between Wesleyan theology and Fundamentalism through historical, biblical, scientific, and theological exposition.
"The Evangelical Catechism" is a valuable resource for pastors, new church members, and confirmation classes, and is widely used by United Church of Christ congregations. Originally authorized by the Evangelical Synod of North America (which brought the catechism into the twentieth century) it focuses on the following essentials: the Ten Commandments; the Attributes of God; the Apostles' Creed; prayer; the sacrament of Holy Baptism; and the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. This revised edition has been refreshed with a more modern approach for United Church of Christ congregations in the twenty-first century.
Michelle Goldberg, a senior political reporter for Salon.com, has been covering the intersection of politics and ideology for years. Before the 2004 election, and during the ensuing months when many Americans were trying to understand how an administration marked by cronyism, disregard for the national budget, and poorly disguised self-interest had been reinstated, Goldberg traveled through the heartland of a country in the grips of a fevered religious radicalism: the America of our time. From the classroom to the mega-church to the federal court, she saw how the growing influence of dominionism-the doctrine that Christians have the right to rule nonbelievers-is threatening the foundations of democracy. In Kingdom Coming, Goldberg demonstrates how an increasingly bellicose fundamentalism is gaining traction throughout our national life, taking us on a tour of the parallel right-wing evangelical culture that is buoyed by Republican political patronage. Deep within the red zones of a divided America, we meet military retirees pledging to seize the nation in Christ's name, perfidious congressmen courting the confidence of neo-confederates and proponents of theocracy, and leaders of federally funded programs offering Jesus as the solution to the country's social problems. With her trenchant interviews and the telling testimonies of the people behind this movement, Goldberg gains access into the hearts and minds of citizens who are striving to remake the secular Republic bequeathed by our founders into a Christian nation run according to their interpretation of scripture. In her examination of the ever-widening divide between believers and nonbelievers, Goldberg illustrates the subversive effect of this conservative stranglehold nationwide. In an age when faith rather than reason is heralded and the values of the Enlightenment are threatened by a mystical nationalism claiming divine sanction, Kingdom Coming brings us face to face with the irrational forces that are remaking much of America.
In the past twenty-five years, liberation theology has emerged as one of the most influential, challenging, and controversial movements in modern theology. Whether in its Asian, African, Latin American, or African-American forms, liberation theology has undertaken to reexamine the dimensions of Christian faith from the perspective of the marginalized and oppressed. Here, at last, is a collection of readings from a cross-section of the world's leading exponents of liberation theology, designed to offer an overview of liberation theology and its central themes. Topics included are methodology, christology, ecclesiology, and spirituality. Each chapter includes a helpful introduction and questions for discussion, making this an ideal introductory text for students, as well as scholars and other general readers.
