Have you ever wondered how to maintain an understanding of monotheism in light of the Christian understanding of the triune Godhead? Have you ever wondered about the identity of ""YHWH"" in the Old Testament? Have you identified YHWH as the first person of the Trinity as many in the Christian tradition have? If so, this book is for you. Many of the early Trinitarian heresies stemmed from a misunderstanding of YHWH in the Old Testament, especially identifying YHWH as one person and not multiple persons. This book addresses issues relating to the identity of YHWH in the Old Testament and makes the bold claim that YHWH is multiple persons in the OT and therefore, Father is YHWH, Jesus is YHWH, and the Holy Spirit is YHWH. This conclusion is based on sound exegesis of OT/NT passages, the early Christian understanding of God in the Old Testament, and the New Testament's identification of Jesus in the identity of YHWH. If identified thus, a Christian reading of the entirety of Scripture will take on new meaning, resulting in a robust Trinitarian interpretation of Scripture.
Explores the S¿¿khya system and the delicate relationship it articulates between witness consciousness (Purüa) and manifest realities (Prak¿ti), providing a path to freedom through knowledge.
Collects and interprets the literary legacy of N¿r¿, an early Sufi master known for his ecstatic behaviour, eccentric acts, and passionate poems of mystical love.
After several interactions with Muslims of distinct sects in the Bronx community, NYC schools, and the workplace through the decades, Aryeh observed how some professing Christians were led to believe in the Islamic claim of Muhammad's legitimacy as a prophet. Although a few maintained the belief that Jesus remained holy as a "prophet," they suggested he was a mere man and abandoned their past confessions regarding his divinity. Nevertheless, the more astounding claim many ex-Christians and Muslims made suggested that the Jewish and Christian God found in the Bible identified as the same deity of the Qur'an. Hence, these claims above initiated the primary reasons for delving deep into the study of Islam and writing this book for the sake of not only reaching many believers who erred from Christianity but the Muslims who believed that Allah identified as the God of the Jews and Christians. Indeed, the enormous task of disproving Islam as an extension of the Abrahamic faith required many investigations into the questions raised by such astonishing claims. This book makes deep inquiries into the historical and theological assertions found in the Islamic faith concerning Allah, Muhammad, and the religious practices observed today, which have survived for little over fourteen centuries.Consequentially, the unfortunate misconceptions taught about Islam in many church pulpits since the early days of this researcher's youth stemmed from books found in academia and some Christian libraries, which promoted a worldwide narrative by selective, favorable historical accounts based on political ideologies instead of rigorous theological investigation. The Christian perspective on Islam examines the theological origins of the Islamic faith by first investigating the geographical locations alleged as the nascent religion's early beginnings by exploring the historical and societal development of the Arab peoples. Second, this book probes the legitimacy of Muhammad as a divinely ordered prophet by consulting the Judaic traditions derived from the Jewish Scriptures explaining the qualifications of authentic prophethood. Finally, the sequential order of inquiry laid out above will highlight the emergence of the theology and residual religious rituals observed today in the Islamic world, and therefore, conclusively demonstrate that Islam remains unaligned with its Jewish and Christian predecessors.
First released in 1894, The Coming Prince by Sir Robert Anderson remains a revered literary work among students of biblical prophecy over a century later. As a highly educated Scottish lawyer and investigator who rose to lead Scotland Yard's Criminal Investigation Department under Queen Victoria, Anderson brought analytic rigor to his Christian writings. This book represents his systematic study of the prophetic Book of Daniel in light of contemporary events and End Times theology. The central figure in Anderson's eschatological exploration is "the coming prince" referenced in Daniel 9:26-27 - a messianic figure whom Bible scholars have long associated with Jesus Christ. Anderson performs an exacting literary and historical analysis of Daniel's text and links it to Persian, Greek, and Roman impacts on the land of Palestine across centuries. He discusses attempts by Antiochus Epiphanes and later Roman leaders to fulfill key verses.Ultimately Anderson demonstrates how these were partial at best, with complete fulfillment awaiting Christ's Second Advent. His chronological tracings align with dispensationalism though he warns against dogmatic date-setting. While avoiding sensationalism, Anderson stresses the unprecedented progress of his era in transport, communication, scientific knowledge, and globalization as paving the way for prophetic consummation.Modern readers will appreciate Anderson's restrained and logical exegesis along with his "big picture" global perspective at the zenith of the British Empire. The Coming Prince retains enduring value as a seminal work of history, theology, and apologetics. It provides a thought-provoking possibility that today's breaking news may be setting an ultimate end times drama into motion - with a much-anticipated "coming prince" poised just beyond the horizon in the prophecies of Daniel.
Francophone Sephardic Fiction:Writing Migration, Diaspora, and Modernity approaches modern Sephardic literature in a comparative way to draw out similarities and differences among selected francophone novelists from various countries, with a focus on North Africa. The definition of Sepharad here is broader than just Spain: it embraces Jews whose ancestors had lived in North Africa for centuries, even before the arrival of Islam, and who still today trace their allegiance to ways of being Jewish that go back to Babylon, as do those whose ancestors spent a few hundred years in Iberia. The author traces the strong influence of oral storytelling on modern novelists of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries and explores the idea of the portable homeland, as exile and migration engulfed the long-rooted Sephardic communities. The author also examines diaspora concepts, how modernity and post-modernity threatened traditional ways of life, and how humor and an active return into history for the novel have done more than mere nostalgia could to enliven the portable homeland of modern francophone Sephardic fiction.
This book provides a wealth of fascinating information about many significant and lesser-known nineteenth-century Christian authors, mostly women, who were motivated to write material specifically for children¿s spiritual edification because of their personal faith. It explores three prevalent theological and controversial doctrines of the period, namely Soteriology, Biblical Authority and Eschatology, in relation to children¿s specifically engendered Christian literature. It traces the ecclesiastical networks and affiliations across the theological spectrum of Evangelical authors, publishers, theologians, clergy and scholars of the period. An unprecedented deluge of Evangelical literature was produced for millions of Sunday School children in the nineteenth century, resulting in one of its most prolific and profitable forms of publishing. It expanded into a vast industry whose magnitude, scope and scale is discussed throughout this book. Rather than dismissing Evangelical children¿s literature as simplistic, formulaic, moral didacticism, this book argues that, in attempting to convert the mass reading public, nineteenth-century authors and publishers developed a complex, highly competitive genre of children¿s literature to promote their particular theologies, faith and churchmanships, and to ultimately save the nation.

A pioneer of the “exvangelical” movement examines how toxic right-wing beliefs took over American Christianity—and why people are leaving the church and speaking out against itWith the rise of Trumpism, the American evangelical movement has more political influence than ever—yet at the same time, people are leaving Christianity in record numbers. Why are so many people walking away from the right-wing religion they were raised in, and what are they doing to overcome the past?Writer and podcaster Blake Chastain is uniquely positioned to understand this phenomenon. Raised evangelical, he went to a Christian college intending to become a pastor—until he found himself unable to reconcile his faith with the prejudice and even abuse he saw being done in God’s name. He created the popular hashtag #exvangelical and the hit podcast of the same name, and soon became part of a growing movement of people walking away from toxic religion and using the unique tools of the internet to speak out, find healing, and build new communities. In Exvangelical and Beyond, Chastain delves into evangelicalism’s deep roots in American politics and society, and explains why and how so many Christians—and ex-Christians—are forging a new path online. Blending history, personal narrative, and incisive analysis, this is a must-read for anyone who has left the church, is deconstructing their own faith, or simply wants to understand religious culture in America.
This is a book that explores finding God and life in the past , present and future along the Pecos River of southeastern New Mexico, a frontier region of the American West that earned a reputation for being wild, unexplored and rebellious (ala "there is no law west of the Pecos") as it had been for thousands of years under Native-American, Spanish, Mexican and American control. It is a book that gives the reader a glimpse into the lives and struggles of living in this part of the "Land of Enchantment" or "Satan's Paradise" as the New Mexico Territory was labeled.

This book discusses the role of human capital and a global mindset for a successful intercultural management of the Society of Jesus in the geographical contexts of Japan and Peru during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Historical data for more than 200 Jesuits has been evaluated and analyzed according to modern management theory. The work is, therefore, an interdisciplinary study related to the history of religious orders, European expansion, and trans- or intercultural management and shows how the Jesuit missionaries in Japan and Peru were able to achieve and stimulate a successful expansion of their order's influence in these regions of the world. While analyzing a historical topic, the book is also of interest to modern day managers and those who are interested in creating a successful strategy for intercultural management.

The Church of the Classical Age: The Era of Great Splinteringis the seventh installment in Henri Daniel-Rops' magnificent History of the Church of Christ. This volume surveys the eighteenth century's intellectual revolution, wrought by Galileo, Descartes, and Rousseau (among others); appraises the Church's missionary efforts-in Asia, with the Chinese rites controversy and the spirited work of de Nobili and de Britto in India; in Canada, with the heroic endeavors of Sts. Isaac Jogues and John de Brébeuf; in the New World and Africa, where clashing cultures and tumultuous race relations deepened the difficulty of evangelization; and in Russia, where the Jesuits labored to re-establish fraternity with the Orthodox Church; and, lastly, opens a candid examination of the "churches outside the Church," beginning with the proliferation of European Protestant sects and the emergence of new groups like the Quakers and the Pietists. The eighteenth century saw the Church-and, indeed, the world-stand as upon the knife's edge; "stray but a little" and they would fail. With Daniel-Rops' typical talent for engaging historical narrative, The Church of the Classical Age: The Era of Great Splintering chronicles the steps (and mis-steps) that brought the Church into the harsh light of the scaffold and reveals the grace which empowered her to "preserve her loyalties intact."
"What was believable in one era is no longer acceptable in another. What one culture finds utterly incredible elsewhere becomes an article of faith. This disjuncture forms the basis of Peter Harrison's masterful, expansive intervention in intellectual history, as he challenges misconceptions about modernity in relation to supernaturalism and belief"--
