PROPHECY IS WIDELY PRACTISEDThere are an estimated 600 million Charismatic & Pentecostal Christians in the world today and many regularly exercise prophecy, words of knowledge and words of wisdom.PROPHECY IS POWERFULMany lives have been changed and many churches transformed through the gifts of revelation, including dreams and visions.PROPHECY IS CONTROVERSIALSome argue that prophecy and other gifts of the Spirit are no longer operative and recent high-profile misguided 'prophecies' have brought the gift into disrepute. How can we negotiate the confusion and conflicting views that surround the use of prophecy in the contemporary church?REDEEMING PROPHECY evaluates prophecy today using the lens of Scripture and of church history. Informative and accessible, questions addressed include:· How do we actually receive and communicate prophecy?· How can we evaluate the content of a prophetic word?· Can we distinguish between human and divine elements of a prophecy?· What makes someone a false prophet?· What safeguards and protocols should be in place?· Is there an overlap between 'natural' intuition and prophecy?· How can we evaluate political prophecies?

And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats. (Matthew 25:32)Volume 10A deep, inspiring, and often challenging study of the Lord Jesus Christ's miracles and parables.Men who were led by the hand or groped their way along the wall to reach Jesus were touched by his finger and went home without a guide, rejoicing that Jesus Christ had opened their eyes. Jesus is still able to perform such miracles. And, with the power of the Holy Spirit, his Word will be expounded and we'll watch for the signs to follow, expecting to see them at once. Why shouldn't those who read this be blessed with the light of heaven? This is my heart's inmost desire.I can't put fine words together. I've never studied speech. In fact, my heart loathes the very thought of intentionally speaking with fine words when souls are in danger of eternal punishment. No, I work to speak straight to your hearts and consciences, and if there is anyone with faith to receive, God will bless them with fresh revelation.- Charles H. SpurgeonIn this tenth volume, Charles H. Spurgeon expounds on small and large debts forgiven, the parable of the good Samaritan, the parable of the unfruitful fig tree, the parable of the wedding feast, excuses, counting the cost, the parable of the lost silver coin, the parable of the prodigal son, what it means to truly confess and repent of our sins.List of ChaptersBankrupt Debtors Discharged (Luke 7:42)Love's Competition (Luke 7:42-43)The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)Good News for You (Luke 10:33)Judgment Threatening but Mercy Sparing (Luke 13:7-8)This Year Too (Luke 13:8)All Things Are Ready. When God needed someone to deliver his children from Egyptian bondage he was called Almighty God, and he called Moses to accomplish that task. But he was known as I AM to Moses and Israel. When God needed someone to deliver his children from the bondage of sin and death, he sent no one, he came himself, and he called himself I AM, the Messiah, the Christ, the Savior of the world.

This book shows that in Psalm 22 the psalmist complains to God about his shame experiences and he prays to him for his deliverance from shame and the restoration of his honor. The book also presents the shame and honor values and means found in Psalm 22 which are related to the shame and honor status of the psalmist. It discusses the social values of patronage, kinship/family, and trust which are the key values the psalmist held on to maintain his honor. are discussed in the book. It also explains the means of forsakenness/abandonment, taunt speeches, nakedness, and feast/meal that factor in the psalmist's shame and honor. The book also surveys the different deliverance terms which convey the psalmist's deliverance from shame. It shows Yahweh's active role in the restoration of the psalmist from shame to honor. The study adds an overview of the similarities and differences of how the same values and means were practiced in the Mediterranean and Mesopotamian, and Israelite backgrounds.

The Blue-Collar Bible Scholar's Reader's Guide to the New Testament is the culmination of what Joel Edmund Anderson has taught in his Bible classes at both the high school level and college level over the past 25 years of teaching. As the title suggests, it really is a "reader's guide" to help anyone understand what they're reading in the New Testament. Most Bible commentaries simply are not aimed at the average, sincere Christian who simply wants to make sense of what he/she is reading. Scholarly works are aimed at scholars that not only tend to focus solely on historical-critical questions and issues, but often fail to read any given biblical book as a unified, literary whole. Simply put, most scholarly works on the Bible give a heavy dose of historical, archeological, and textual information about the biblical text, but they make very little effort to actually read the biblical text and help the reader understand it. This is where the BCBS Reader's Guide to the New Testament is different. To be sure, Anderson gives enough historical background, both of the New Testament world and each individual New Testament book, so that the reader can get a grasp of the general time period, but his ultimate focus is to help the reader understand the biblical text itself. He does this by doing a number of things with each New Testament book:1. He provides a brief explanation of the time of writing and authorship of each book, as is generally accepted in both biblical scholarship and Church Tradition.2. He provides a "Big Things to Know" section that highlights the major themes and literary imagery in each New Testament book. This essentially is a "heads up" to the reader to look out for these themes and images as he/she reads any given New Testament book.3. He provides a "Story Chart" or "Literary Map" of each New Testament book that gives the reader a visual of the overall flow of each New Testament book. This is extremely helpful, in that it helps the reader (a) follow the storyline in books like the Gospels and Acts, and (b) trace the argument that is being made in each New Testament letter.4. He then provides a "walkthrough" of each New Testament book, passage by passage, helping the reader understand how each New Testament book fits together as a coherent whole. 5. Finally, in the corresponding BCBS Reader's Guide to the New Testament Workbook, Anderson provides study/discussion questions for the reader as he/she reads through each book in the New Testament. The workbook can be used in individual study, a Sunday School or Bible Study small group, or a high school Bible class.

Peace is a gift. One of the most sought-after states of being is peace of mind. People spend a tremendous amount of time and resources searching for the thing that will give them peace in culture and society, which increasingly thrives on disharmony, chaos, and what seems to be unending crisis. But the peace we seek is not found in other people, places, or possessions. The peace we seek is found in Jesus Christ. Our Savior came to bring peace by reconciling us to the Father. He left his peace in us through the presence of the Holy Spirit. He told us how to overcome the world--by seeking peace in him. He Gives You Peace is a devotional of biblical topics on how the peace of God impacts our lives and daily decisions. My prayer is that you will recognize and seek the peace of Jesus Christ as you engage with these devotional studies.Doris Willis A Measure of Grace

Presence & Power, Sense & Nonsense"There is good news," writes Douglas Jacoby in introducing this updated version of his book. "Your longings will not be left unfulfilled! You can know the truth about the Spirit, and you can know the power of God in your life. And you can experience significant spiritual growth, provided you are willing to pay the price. This will require patience on your part and a willingness to dig deep and often into God's treasure-house of knowledge."The Spirit is really two books in one. In Part One Douglas shows in practical ways how to walk in the Spirit and live in the Spirit's power. In Part Two the reader will find a more technical discussion of many issues connected with the Charismatic and Neo-pentecostal Movements of the twentieth century, as well as biblical answers to a host of other questions. For all of those who want a sound understanding of the living water that Jesus promised (John 7:38), this book will meet many ne

The life and work of Origen (c186-c254 CE) have always been considered important in relation to the transmission of the New Testament text. This is not just because he was a prolific writer who referred constantly to biblical texts, but also because of his geographical location in two of the most important centres of early Christian education, Alexandria and Caesarea. The task of collecting his citations and mapping these against known manuscripts is an important task and this book contributes to this process by looking specifically at the citations from the synoptic gospels that occur in the works of Origen that have survived in Greek. The citations, lemmata, adaptations and allusions have been collected and citations and lemmata compared against a selection of known manuscripts representing major text types including the so-called Caesarean text type. Statistical analysis has been undertaken to establish the level of agreement between Origen's text and known manuscripts, with further analysis undertaken to establish levels of agreement between the different manuscripts. The evidence suggests that Origen did not use one type of text for any one gospel. Indeed his works reveal instead the range of available text traditions in Caesarea at his time of writing.

What is the faith journey really about? Why was Jesus so hated? What do we know of the Kingdom of God? How is Jesus' resurrection relevant? What do we know of the Holy Spirit? How will it all end, and why is "the end of the age" associated with "birth pangs?"Reflections On Living In Grace is an exciting and illuminating book addressing questions such as these. A unique approach invites the reader to explore 130 themes found in the Gospels and the Book of Acts. Each theme is accompanied by a reflection intended to prompt deeper thinking. There is no armchair theologising here. The present-day relevance of each theme is clearly emphasised. This book is as encouraging as it is accessible. Each theme is kept to two pages. In this way, the busy reader is able to engage with a brief reading prior to commencing the day's activities. For those who have more time, the book can be used as a aid for more intentionally contemplating the mystery that is life.

When God liberated Israel from Egyptian slavery, He gave them 10 commandments by which to live at Mt. Sinai. He also gave the people 7 Holy Feasts to observe each year to commemorate and remember how He rescued them from servitude and persecution. These were called the 7 Feasts of Israel. Four were in the Spring and three were in the Fall.In the Old Testament, prophets wrote of a Jewish Messiah who would someday be sent from God to atone for their sins permanently. Unknown to Israel and the Jews was that this redeemer was none other than Jesus Christ. The 7 Feasts were given for two reasons: The first was to commemorate the deliverance of Israel from Egyptian bondage and slavery. The second was to prophesy of 7 events which will herald the first and second coming of Jesus Christ. The prophetic aspects of the first four Feasts were completely fulfilled at the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The last three will be fulfilled as the 70th week of Daniel and the current Church Age come to a close. Each feast was called a Moed, which is Hebrew for set time or an appointed time. The 7 Feasts collectively provide a blueprint for the 1st and 2nd comings of Jesus Christ. Both the Historical and Prophetic aspects of each feast will be presented, along with the Jewish and Christian meanings of each feast.

The Old Testament, or Hebrew Scriptures, has been a source of spiritual inspiration for hundreds of millions of believers throughout the ages. Center stage in the Old Testament is a body of literature by and about the prophets-messengers of God who tried to keep God's people on the right path. You know their names-Elijah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezekiel-or do you? Are you acquainted with Deborah, Huldah, Miriam and Noadiah? For far too long, the women prophets have never been accorded the respect and attention they deserve, but they delivered God's messages with the same passion, commitment and urgency as the men. This book is written to acknowledge and celebrate them-and put the women-the prophetesses-on the pedestal they deserve to occupy.
