Studies in the History and Culture of the Middle East are published as supplement to Der Islam founded in 1910 by Carl Heinrich Becker, an early practitioner of the modern study of Islam. Following Becker's lead, the mission of the series is the study of past societies of the Middle East, their belief systems, and their underlying social and economic relations, from the Iberian Peninsula to Central Asia, and from the Ukrainian steppes to the highlands of Yemen. Publications in the series draw on the philological groundwork generated by the literary tradition, but in their aim to cover the entire spectrum of the historically oriented humanities and social sciences, also utilize textual sources as well as archival, material, and archaeological evidence. Its editors are Stefan Heidemann (University of Hamburg, Germany, Editor-in-Chief), Gottfried Hagen (University of Michigan, USA), Andreas Kaplony (Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany), and Rudi Matthee (University of Delaware, USA), Kristina L. Richardson (Queens College New York, USA).

This book explores local cultural discourses and practices relating to manifestations and experiences of the demonic, the spectral and the uncanny, probing into their effects on people's domestic and intimate spheres of life.

What does it mean when we confess in the Apostles Creed: "He Descended into Hell"? Does it mean what it seems to say? Or something else entirely? Is the phrase biblical at all? It doesn't seem to be in the Bible right?Find out in this sermon by Pastor Chuck Huckaby designed to explain as briefly as possible why you would ever want to boldly confess: "He descended into Hell!"
If a truly Berean- or open-minded person (cf. Acts 17:11) spends the time necessary to execute an exhaustive study of biblical eschatology (or end times / last days), he/she will (no doubt in my mind and the minds of many others) discover that it affects numerous topics which he/she may or may not have ever considered it affecting, and this happened to me several years ago. Due to my studies forcing me to leave my denomination's traditional amillennial tenet, I was therefore also ... over multiple years (which have yet come to an end, and I'm sure won't until I breathe my last) ... forced me to reconsider my positions on many peripherally-related topics such as the millennium, the resurrection, the judgment, the kingdom, and ones touched upon in this appetite-whetting book. I hope this work will incite you to start down a road you have perhaps yet to seriously consider. God Speed! (Oh, and by the way, if you've never considered Christ's post-ascension body, you should enjoy a brief look into that interesting topic.)
Spiritual warfare is what happens in the unseen, supernatural realm. It is the battle between good and evil. It is the most controversial and also frightening conversation amongst people who may not necessarily agree on whether or not God exists in their world and in their belief system. Fighting the Dark is an account of one man's story of supernatural, unexplainable occurrences that happened not only to him, but also others he personally know. There are other people who may have witnessed or experienced similar occurrences, and that is why Fighting the Dark is such a profound account of what happens in the spiritual realm AND how to respond. God is all-powerful and Satan is defeated, but you have to know first that spiritual warfare is absolutely and undeniably real. The Bible affirms in Ephesians 6:12 that, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
Demons are real . . . and they are everywhereWe may not be able to see them, but they are all around us. Smoke and shadows, ghoulish features or lifelike forms, they are the demons, or what Rachel Stavis calls ?entities,? that surround us, or even attach themselves to our bodies, feeding off our fears and our negative energy. As an exorcist without religious affiliation, Rachel has found herself at the crux of the spiritual crossroads of thousands of clients?all of whom she's been able to save by ridding them of their emotional and physical pain, and getting at the root causes of why they are so vulnerable to attack.Sister of Darkness is Rachel's story?how she discovered her gift for communicating with the spirit world and how she learned to accept it and use it to help those in need, from small children to powerful people from all walks of life. Rachel takes us on a journey into an unseen world, describes the diverse range of entities that surround us, the Spirit Guides and Ancient Ancestors that come to her aid to reveal the root causes of pain, and what you can do to protect yourself from creating a hospitable environment.A unique look at demonology removed from religious dogma, Sister of Darkness creates a world that is at times frightening, eye-opening, and utterly enthralling.
This is Richard Gilpin's 1867 work, "Daemonologia Sacra". It is an interesting and extensive treatise on Satan, exploring his nature, agency, power, malice, etc. "Daemonologia Sacra" will appeal to those with an interest in demonology and the concept of Satan, and it would make for a worthy addition to collections of allied literature. Richard Gilpin M.D. (1625-1700) was an English nonconformist minister and physician. Contents include: "Prefatory Note", "Memoir of Dr Gilpin", "Daemonologia Sacra", "The Introduction to the Text, from a Consideration of the Desperate ruin of the Souls of Men", "The Text opened, Expressing Satan's Malice, Power, Cruelty, and Diligence", "Of the Malice of Satan in Particular", "The Grounds and Causes of the Malice", etc. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete the original text and artwork.
Philip C. Almond explores the figure of evil incarnate from the first centuries of the Christian era through to the Enlightenment, when the Devil became marginal to Christian theology and the dominant concerns of the Western intellectual tradition.
