"The dramatic true story of the champion Thoroughbred racehorse who gained international fame in the tumultuous, Civil War-era South, despite going nearly blind, and became the most successful sire in American racing history. The early days of American horse-racing were grueling. Four-mile heats-races four miles long, run two or three times in succession!-were the norm, rewarding horses who possessed the ideal combination of stamina and speed, attributes that pioneering Americans prized. The stallion Lexington, named after the city in Kentucky where he was born, exemplified these winning qualities, encouraging a war-torn nation in those perilous times that the extraordinary was possible. After shattering the world speed record for a four-mile race, Lexington continued his winning career until deteriorating eyesight forced his retirement in 1855. But once his groundbreaking achievements as a racehorse ended, his role as a sire began. Horses from his bloodline won more money than the offspring of any other Thoroughbred sire-an annual success that led Lexington to be named America's leading sire an unprecedented sixteen times. Yet with the Civil War raging, Lexington's years at a Kentucky stud farm were far from idyllic. Confederate soldiers ran amok, looting freely and kidnapping horses from the top stables. They soon focused their desires on the prized Lexington and his valuable progeny. Kim Wickens, a lawyer and dressage rider, became fascinated by this legendary horse when she learned that twelve of Thoroughbred racing's thirteen Triple Crown winners descend from Lexington. She spent years meticulously researching the horse and his legacy-and with Lexington, she presents an absorbing, exciting account that will transport you back to the raucous beginning of American horse racing and introduce you to the stallion at its heart"--

"In 2021, horse racing's most recognizable face-Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert-had five horses that failed postrace drug tests, including that year's Kentucky Derby winner, Medina Spirit. While the incident was a major scandal in the Thoroughbred racing world, it was only the latest in a long string of drug-related infractions among high-caliber athletes. Stories about systemic rule-breaking and "doping culture"-both human and equine-have put world-class athletes and their trainers under intense scrutiny. Each newly discovered instance of abuse forces fans to question the participants' integrity, and in the case of horse racing, their humanity. In Unnatural Ability: The History of Performance-Enhancing Drugs in Thoroughbred Racing, Milton C. Toby addresses the historical and contemporary context of the Thoroughbred industry's most pressing issue. While early attempts at boosting racehorses' performance were admittedly crude, widespread legal access to narcotics and stimulants has changed the landscape of horse racing, along with athletic governing bodies' ability to regulate it. With the sport at a critical turning point in terms of doping restrictions and sports betting, Toby delivers a comprehensive account of the practice of using performance-enhancing drugs to influence the outcome of Thoroughbred races since the late nineteenth century. Paying special attention to Thoroughbred racing's purse structure and its reliance on wagering to supplement a horse's winnings, Toby discusses how horse doping poses a unique challenge for gambling sports and what the industry and its players must do to survive the pressure to get ahead"--

This book describes clearly and precisely how top Horse racing Professional Gambler and Tipster Anthony Gibson processes some very basic information on a Daily basis to arrive at some solid betting propositions. Backing all of the selections this system has thrown up to date in a 14 month period you would have made over 400 points level stakes profit, if you want to take a more selective approach there is another method highlighted in the book that cuts selections down by over 60% yet only around 50% of the profit. But combining the two method has made over 620 points to date. The author also mentions another method highlighting what he calls his banker bets. If you have never placed a bet on horse racing this does not matter as no form study whatsoever is required. The system only works on UK racing and is a fascinating insight into how a professionals brain works. Banking and staking are also covered in this book alongside the backers mindset required to succeed in this field
Tim Russell ex bookie turned punter explains how it is possible with the right strategy how to turn the tables on his ex colleagues, the bookmaking fraternity using a betting market which is not seriously considered by the general betting public.
