The Boat Business Activity Log provides a means for confirming the amount of days a vessel is engaged in its business activity. Each day is thereby summarized. Other business records ( revenue deposits, expense receipts, etc.) should provide detail when needed.Whether 90 minute day charters, or all day guide trips, the IRS will demand confirmation of how much business use (vs. owner's personal pleasure) your vessel has experienced. This resource should be one aspect of your record of business operation.

Everyone needs to eat but racing across 1000's of miles of open ocean or up the inside passage towards Alaska can present certain challenges. This is the story of how I figured out what food to make, how to create and reheat the food. I cover how to look at a vessel, what to do for planning with the space you have to work with as well as choices on creating interesting, flavorful and nutritious food. The second half of the book is about the Transpac Race, freezing meals and creating some clear instructions for the crew to unpack and heat them. The R2AK section, or first half of the book, is about a specific type of journey where we needed smaller sized meals so I dehydrated the food. I have also included my recipes for both journeys so you can experiment with these at home. Good luck and safe travels!
In 1993 my husband and I bought a beautiful 47-foot ketch named Adventure. We cruised for ten years in Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama. We transited the Panama Canal, eventually returning to the United States. To keep our memories alive we diligently kept a journal giving a detailed account of what the cruising life is all about.
"Small-boat sailing" was first published in Yachting Monthly in August of 1912.
A practical and user-friendly guide to the collision regulations, with full interpretations of the rules and clear diagrams. A thorough understanding of the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (ColRegs) is essential for a wide range of professionals as well as amateur mariners. Written in legal text rather than easy to understand terminology, it is not a surprise that the Colregs are subject to gross misunderstanding and confusion. This makes this a difficult area for the thousands of mariners who need to learn, understand and remember them. This handbook is the answer. Expert marine training director Simon Jinks provides straightforward explanations of the complex situations that the Regulations discuss. He gives simple and comprehensive interpretation of the ColRegs rule by rule, giving students and professionals the clarity they need for exam prep and dealing with real-life situations. Colour illustrations of all lights and shapes, and clear diagrams provide additional support for students. The handbook also includes chapters on bridge watch-keeping, radar plotting and techniques for answering ColRegs questions in MCA exam conditions. It shows you where other maritime regulations work hand-in-hand with ColRegs.Simon Jinks is an experienced teacher of ColRegs to students who are studying for MCA Masters, OOW, Boat master and Chief Mates exams, plus those who are studying for RYA Yachtmasters and IYT Master of Yacht Qualifications and want to have an in-depth knowledge. The book adapts the author's teaching notes, developed over many years, with added extras around the subject to help in greater understanding.

"Troubleshoot potential problems before they take you down ... marine technology expert Edwin Sherman helps owners make sense of modern boats' increasingly sophisticated installations and networked electronics."--Back cover
For all those who love boats, their 'lines' are an essential element in the appreciation of individual craft. But what are these lines and how are they created? This book introduces the reader to the key principles of yacht design in a straightforward and understandable manner, allowing them to be aware of the elements and processes involved. Most of the complex maths has been replaced with simple rules of thumb. Any boat owner will benefit from understanding the characteristics of boat design which will help them if they want to modify the hull, rig, deck layout or accommodation. It will be equally useful to boat buyers who want to ask questions like: "e;How will she sail?"e;; "e;How much will she cost?"e;; "e;How easy is it to change things?"e; and "e;How can I reduce or increase sail area without upsetting the balance?"e; Boat owners and buyers will be able to feel more confident when talking to designers and boatbuilders about their current or future boat. While novice boat designers can start their journey with this book, giving them a good foundation whether they want to use pencil and paper or Computer-Aided Design.
