Dive into the explosive, raw, and vulnerable story of a man's search for sanity amid his increasing dependence on DXM (dextromethorphan), the active ingredient in Robitussin and other cough suppressant medications. In Volume One, you'll enter the underbelly of York, PA as the narrator navigates the streets and his new normal. In 2007, Ryan Gray was on and off the streets-living the last days of his existence as an active addict. He stayed in several halfway houses, had friends who were kind enough to let him sleep in their homes, and sometimes stayed at a nearby shelter. Volume One of his autobiographical narrative chronicles the events leading through the 'twilight' of his addiction, from meeting a native of York who became like a brother, to when Ryan began to inwardly sense his own futility, to making the choice to leave behind the middle-class life he knew. Twilight in York: Volume One is written in the style of Jack Kerouac, with a stream of consciousness effect as well as grammatical alterations. Heavy with explicit drug use, this read is best suited for adults. Though heavy and dark, Twilight in York, Volume One has a simple, easy-to-follow plot that appeals to the masses. Drug addicts, family and friends of addicts, homeless (and formerly homeless) people, and the mentally ill will resonate with Ryan's down-to-earth voice and relatable stories.Ryan Gray's sensual and precisely observed Twilight in York is an aspiring classic of American noir, reminiscent in mood of William Kennedy's down-and-out-in-Albany novels, reminiscent in style and tone of some more bitter and more street-wise Kerouac. You keep thinking you've misread the title, for all this desperation cannot possibly concentrate in little York, PA. It has to be some place bigger, darker, worse. But, no, every little town in America has its pockets of perdition, which can be alleviated some by sucking down a bottle of cough syrup. I don't like and don't usually choose this sort of book, but I liked THIS book, because it contains not only gray and sad truth, but also poetry. Poetry transfiguring all that dread.-David Brendan Hopes, author of The Falls of the WyonaMental illness plus addiction easily lead to homelessness. The abject pain and disorientation of the living conditions that daily challenge the addicted unhoused population is juxtaposed with the absolute joy of reading such a well-written non-fiction. His words often lead like poetry, brazen and bare, not painting a picture, but excavating the myriad contours of the meanings and meanderings where life and emotions meet. Addiction and the unhoused population have exploded in the past 20 years, and this book gives us insight to the instability of the lifestyle, the uncertainty of finding a place to sleep each night, how to maintain the addiction while simultaneously working as a day laborer, and the loyalty of friends who bond amid life on the streets.-Renee Robb-Cohen

Dan Rather of CBS News calls it "The Killing Fields of America," but little do they know about the dreams those kids had. Somehow I escaped the destruction these kids were about to get into, so I could tell my side of the story that ruined so many lives forever.I myself was blinded by the powers of darkness. We had a code and believed in death before dishonor. As I matured, I realized how there is no honor six feet under and how you're forgotten after a few decades behind bars, all because we lived by a code that was a lie.We tend to blame the man with the power to lock us up and throw away the key, but we forget who made a choice to follow that code that gave that man the power. As we sit in our cells wondering, "Why me? Why me?" I remember there is no honor in a lie. There is a way which seems right unto men, but at the end, it brings forth destruction. (Proverbs 16:25) There is an evil, which I have seen under the sun, and I lie heavily upon men. (Ecclesiastes 6:1) Nothing is truly learned until it is truly lived. (Deepak Chopra)

IT IS TIME TO APPROACH THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM AND REMOVE HIM. Pornography is like Delilah to Samson: its strong magnetic pull will capture your heart, steal your strength, and blur a person's vision of the realistic world around them. The beauty of sexual intimacy is cheapened, and getting a fix from porn overtakes the need to connect on an intimate level with a real person who desires your love and attention.

From the author of Hold On, But Don’t Hold Still, the emotionally charged and eye-opening account of a mother who navigates the cacophony of best practices and urgent advice from parenting authorities in search of a way to support her teen as he maps his own path to mental health. When Kristina Kuzmič started to see signs that her otherwise sunny, resilient teenage son was struggling, she was sure a few simple fixes could right the ship. But over the following months, the issues her family faced became more nuanced, complicated, and pervasive than she could've predicted—and what began as a clear to do list spiraled into an emotionally fraught and seemingly endless push and pull between signs of progress and overwhelming fear. Despite her best efforts, Kuzmič had internalized a set of obligations, ideas, and unrealistic standards from parenting culture and social media that left her unprepared to guide her child when he needed her most. Featuring an urgent and affirming foreword by renowned and New York Times bestselling clinician Dr. Shefali Tsabary—Kuzmič's new book debunks ten "parenting truths” that kept her in crisis, and delves into her insecurities and the mistakes she made to reveal invaluable lessons and transformative approaches that worked.  While her family stands on the other side now stronger than ever, Kuzmič's journey calls to parents who have felt the instinct to say “I can fix this” in situations where good intentions far exceed our abilities to enact change.

Have you struggled with drinking or some form of addiction for some time now? Maybe even years? Have you stopped but still feel emotionally or spiritually bankrupt? Have you tried several times to quit but simply can't stay stopped? Have you been told by many others that you need to cut back? Have consequences from your addiction piled up to the point it's overwhelming? If so, this book might be for you. It discusses twelve principles that one can learn in the journey of recovery. Most people think life is over if they must quit drinking or using drugs. The truth is if you're truly an alcoholic or an addict, sobriety is where life begins. These twelve principles were likely taught to you as a child before the addiction began. However, maybe your addiction wiped all those away and that's when the trouble started and began to accumulate problems in health, money, relationships, or spirituality. You deserve a life of happiness, abundance, and love. You simply have to be willing to put down the drink or the drug and follow a few suggestions. A twelve-step program can help with that, but this book talks in detail about the principles that come alive again within us and bring us back to being the person that we were created to be in the first place. What are you waiting for? How free do you want to be? I hope this book sparks an interest in you to get sober. Or if you're already in recovery, it makes you believe that true happiness is possible when these principles are put into practice. Think of how many alcoholics or addicts you can help once you recover yourself. Your story could change or save someone's life. These principles are paramount in that journey. I wish you much success.
