"You don't need to be an "addict" to engage in destructive addictive behaviours. Do you use social media to distract yourself from difficult emotions, or find yourself seeking a boost through shopping, relationships or drinking? Do you feel that you have habits that are holding you back, but you can't seem to break them? You are not alone. This book is for anyone who struggles with addictive behaviour. In it, psychotherapist Tally Fosh sheds light on the true meaning of addiction and the subtle ways it can manifest itself without our awareness. She explores why we often seek external factors to change the way we feel internally, and provides practical tips and tools to help readers break any self-destructive cycle they may find themselves in using easy steps. Hooked breaks down the journey of addiction into four key pillars: discovery, types of addiction, lows and denial, and recovery. It includes practical tools, from expressive therapy to talking therapy, and case studies from real people. With applications of Tally's principles to scenarios applicable to our modern lives and an inspirational foreword from model and mental health advocate Adwoa Aboah, this book is the perfect companion for your journey toward freedom from addictive habits."--

Born into a turbulent and dysfunctional family-and surrounded by adults who were regularly using marijuana, alcohol, cocaine, heroin and crystal meth-Nick Terry TNT bounced around the Pacific Northwest throughout the 1980s, going to 13 different schools before being expelled in 10th grade. By his teens, Nick had entered a life of addiction and crime and was desperate to escape before ending up dead or in prison. To avoid pending legal charges, Nick fled to Hawaii where he became a father-but his unchecked drug use continued to eat away at his life and family. After multiple attempts at sobriety through traditional treatment and 12-Step recovery, Nick found success through full surrender and commitment to the process-but after four years of sobriety, he hit a wall. A breakthrough came when he discovered breathwork, which he came to believe is the missing piece of the recovery puzzle. In Breath of Life: Finding Long-Term Recovery with Breathwork and Stepwork, Nick shares how he transformed from wayward addict to breathwork and recovery life coach, and offers his holistic, much-needed perspective on how others can do the same. In homage to the Big Book of AA, Breath of Life is divided into sections explaining: - Nick's harrowing, decades-long battle with addiction and what turned it around - 8 spiritual principles of lasting recovery blending holistic teachings and traditional stepwork - A beginner's approach to breathwork and morning routines (used by Nick himself) - Firsthand stories from recovering addicts who have benefitted from Nick's approach - A breathwork appendix with conscious breathing, cyclical sighing and Breath of Life exercises (and more) In the end, Breath of Life draws on 12-Step teachings, ancient spiritual wisdom, modern science and Nick's raw life experience to forge an effective and holistic new recovery path. The result is a genre-defying, holistic recovery handbook that synthesizes all existing paradigms, all while adding a much needed breath of fresh air.

No child grows up too quickly. Children who regularly experience trauma are exposed to more than they are capable of processing. As a result, they often present a facade which falsely conveys that they are more secure and mature than they really are. The consequences of such assumptions are potentially harmful to their health, development, and well-being.Just Enough Light is much more than a story chronicling the impact of divorce on a child raised by a parent suffering from mental illness, incapable of providing the necessary material and emotional support for her children. It is a tribute to the triumphant power of belief and the will to emerge from the despair of drug addiction, violence, anxiety, and depression; and ultimately persevere. What makes this story so compelling is that it is presented from a unique perspective. As each experience unfolds from childhood through adolescence, it is presented through the mindset of the child's age at the time. Both gut-wrenching and touching, it reaffirms the resilient nature of the human spirit and the truth that change and redemption are always possible. Perhaps the most important message of this story is how it affirms the transformative power of human connection through intentional acts of grace.

This book is a collection of essays on overcoming addiction, trauma, anxiety or depression and moving to a more successful life. Based on essays at the blog quantummeetsspirit.com. The author's previous title on the same subject was "Gladiators of light".Quantum science and spirit are seen as opposites, but with closer inspection actually say the same thing which impacts our understanding of the universe and ourselves as physical and spiritual beings. We have traditionally looked, particularly in the west, at the human condition with a great deal of psycho-analytical chatter, but should also take into account, in addition to that useful dialogue, how we work with the universe and everything around us within the laws of attraction and our connection with our limited understanding of God and the spirit world from which we come and return.
Being crowned homecoming queen fast-tracked me to an identity crisis that catalyzed my disclosure of ten years of sexual abuse at the hands of my stepfather. I dropped out of high school for the first half of my senior year while the disclosure was incinerated in my notorious stepfather's career-climbing kiln. I am recovering my authentic self from the rubble of losses amassed over years of enduring entirely narcissistic parents.I felt shame and disgrace about the unsavory and scandalous parts of my life. As a result, I kept quiet and kept my words to myself. I had every reason to die in a self-destructive implosion. Instead, I wrote this book.Recovery is a gritty and ceaseless process that has no finish line. My mother always told me I was going to "need a lot of therapy." She also told me to "never have kids because it will be the worst thing you ever do." My mother was right about the therapy, but she was wrong about the kids.Life is riddled with conflict. Conflict motivates my writing and passion for conflict resolution. Twenty years of therapy at two to three times per week helped me construct a useful and productive life, and it has allowed me to hone my native genius: being a mother.I've given myself a self-accredited PhD in life with a master's in conflict resolution and personality disorders. My greatest hope is that you are entertained and inspired by my life story. The self-discovery that occurred during the creation of this book holds some shocking conclusions. Is it possible that being sexually abused was my saving grace? Is it possible that my alcoholism is not destructive? This book is not a how-to about recovery. It is about self-discovery and where I am in the sucky recovery process.

"Jesus never gave up on me, even throughout all my stubbornness. He freed me from my life of darkness and brought me into His light."Those who have experienced abuse, neglect, and addiction encounter dark times in life when it seems impossible to ever find healing. Yet God always has a way of delivering His children from the darkness to His ever-embracing light.Ruby Sue can testify to such a deliverance as she endured abuse, neglect, and addiction for most of her life. Beginning in her childhood, the neglect and mental abuse inflicted on her by her parents affected her psychological development to the point where she was scared to speak or act like a normal child. Longing for love, but not finding it, she turned to meth, crack cocaine, and weed in her teenage years to suppress her anxiety and experience temporary happiness. Life continued to be cruel as she married a narcissistic man and endured an over twenty-year abusive relationship with him. Praying for salvation to deliver her and her children from danger, she turned to God and found deliverance. From darkness to Light is the raw and inspiring account of Sue's journey of deliverance from the abuse, neglect, and addiction that threatened to claim her life. Her story reveals how during a time of complete darkness living far, far away from God, He still found her, poured out His faithfulness onto her, and showed her His love, goodness, and power. Now, she lives in the light, giving Him glory for everything He has done for her. To anyone who has been or is in the same situation Sue was, God loves and cares about you more than you can fathom. I have come that I may steal, kill, and destroy Satan. "Jesus the Good Shepherd" I am the gate. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved. He will come in and go out and fi nd pasture. He despises all those who follow Christ. His agenda is to keep us from experiencing true happiness and eternal life. He and his supernatural beings are wreaking havoc here on earth, using every effort to annihilate. Let's take our power back through Jesus Christ and bring the lost out of darkness and into the light.
