Home to the location where George Washington took command of the troops and to America's oldest Ivy League university, Cambridge is a city that feels like a town. Hasty Pudding meetings were enlivened with mock trials spoofing happenings in Cambridge and among the faculty; by 1860 the trials had evolved into shows. In a corner of the Cambridge Common, across from Harvard Yard, a Gilded Age statue of a Puritan has been toppled several times. Letters home from Robert Kennedy were found stashed on a high shelf in a college room he occupied, over 30 years after he graduated. From protests to the "Beer Garden Summit", author Jane Merrill shares the stories behind notable landmarks and some significant but little-known facts in and around town.

A student union recently estimated that "40,000 students are now prostitutes in France." The primary cause is the growing precariousness and high cost of student life. This study, carried out in 2006-2007, is a vivid description of the novelty of this form of prostitution. It is practiced discreetly, occasionally, independently, via the Internet, mainly by young female students who call themselves "escorts."The book's findings are twofold. While student prostitution is first and foremost linked to a precarious economic situation and low-income parents, it can sometimes be experienced as a means of emancipating oneself from a framed sexuality, from a life that's too smooth, or of taking "revenge" on the myth of Prince Charming. Also, this type of prostitution differs from so-called "traditional" prostitution-selection of clients, "friendly" atmosphere, socialization through generational and social class differences. The fact remains that for these students, the "choice" of becoming a prostitute is dependent on a series of social and representative breakdowns, frequently linked to the power of money, the attraction of certain material signs of wealth, and also to a double domination: masculine and socio-economic.
My name is Laura, I am 19 years old. I'm a student and I prostitute myself to pay for my studies. I'm not alone in this. It seems that many other students are doing the same thing. It all followed a strange logic, without me really realizing that I was falling. I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I've never known luxury or ease, but until this year, I've never lacked for anything. My thirst for learning and my convictions always made me think that my student years would be the most beautiful, the most carefree. I never thought that my first year at university would turn into a real nightmare. An unprecedented account of a contemporary phenomenon that has only become more pronounced with the prevalence of the Internet and cell phones. The Afterword includes a sociological perspective by Eva Clouet, author of the first survey on student prostitution in the age of new communication technologies, published at the same time by Max Milo.
Before colleges and universities can be truly effective in preparing students for a post-college life, an understanding of the college to post-college transition process for recent college graduates is needed. Although there is extensive literature characterizing the college experience, little research exists surrounding the experiences of recent college graduates, especially during the transition out of college. The purpose of this study was to understand the transition from college to postcollege life for recent college graduates. Conducted from a constructivist epistemological paradigm, this study employed grounded theory methods to understand how participants interpreted their post-college transition experience.
Using a quantitative, quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest nonequivalent (control) group design, this study explored the extent to which students' views of self, as measured by the Adult Trait Hope Scale, Meaning in Life Questionnaire, and Self-Authorship Survey, changed between the ends of the first and second years of college. In addition, this study examined the influence of a learning partnership academic advising program on second-year college students' development of self-authorship, hope, and meaning in life. Finally, this study explored possible relationships between the three constructs of hope, meaning in life, and self-authorship.
Although family systems theorists have long emphasized the family as an important influence on the individual's life choices, there is minimal qualitative research relating to Millennial college students and the impact of their families, particularly in the area of financial beliefs and behaviors. The purpose of this qualitative study was the exploration of the phenomenon of family influence on Millennial college students regarding how money messages from parents and grandparents have influenced their own money beliefs and behaviors. Seven college students between the ages of 21-23 were interviewed to gain insight into the perceived impact of family money messages.

Dear Students: 10 Letters to Empower and Transform Your Higher Education Journey is a higher education guide that prepares students to authentically and intentionally "do school." This is not your typical "how-to" guide. Dear Students uses narratives to illuminate critical topics that will foster the reader¿s understanding of valuable matters such as getting noticed and having your experiences centered; building a circle of support; the significance of faculty relationships including building those relationships in spaces like office hours; addressing fears of speaking, disrupting silence, and engaging voice in the classroom; developing deep listening; cultivating community; nurturing belonging; preparing to participate; and keeping hope alive. Readers will engage moments of critical reflection and leave with many diverse "know-how" strategies that will position them to "do-school" from a place of empowerment and for the purpose of transformation. This book will support the journey of all students, and the people who support them, but is an especially important resource for students holding marginalized identities such as first-generation college students.

Globally cerebrovascular disease (stroke) is the second most important cause of death(WHO, 2008). The word "stroke" itself depicts the manner in which this disorder oftenoccurs to a person. As aptly noted by Stein (2004), a person who is dynamic andindependent person is "struck down" (p.1). Stroke is an abrupt, life-changing incidentthat often gives no caution of its approach. Almost every survivor of stroke has beencaught unaware and it has changed the life of the survivor forever. Duncan,Blankenship, & Bitensky (2009) have noted that stroke can lead to a range ofneurological impairments and medical problems. They have added that constraints inactivities of daily living (ADLs) and reduced quality of life (QoL) are other majoroutcomes of stroke. Based on the progress in the diagnosis, treatment and therapies forstroke in the present day from the time when its occurrence was related to theHippocratic concept of disparity in the "humours", it can be argued that knowledgeabout stroke has come a long way (Edlow, 2008).Stroke has been defined by WHO (2005b) as a "focal (or at times global) neurologicalimpairment of sudden onset, and lasting more than 24 hours (or leading to death), andof presumed vascular origin (p.4)". As per this definition; stroke has its genesis in thevascular system referring to the blood vessels of the body, it occurs rapidly and lasts fora time period of more than twenty hours. Injury of the nervous tissues and even death ofthe patient has been reportede3 in many cases. A stroke or brain attack occurs whencells in the brain die due to insufficient flow of blood. While 80 per cent of the strokesare caused by the blockage of an artery in the neck or brain; the rest are caused by aburst blood vessel in the brain that causes bleeding into or around the brain.
The development, advancement and progress of any society to a large extend depends upon the preparedness of its members for tackling the demands of life. It is crucial to the future of any society that its every forthcoming generation becomes progressively and constructively more effective citizens. Children are like the clay in a potter's hands. Just as a potter gives a desired shape to the clay in his hands, so do children become what their parents and teachers make them. This is primarily the reason why the early growing years in an individual's life are considered as the most crucial period which lay the foundation for the development of their nature, personality and the individual self
