An Runen scheiden sich die Geister. Leichtgläubige Menschen meinen, es wären verbotene Symbole, weil sie in der nationalsozialistischen Vergangenheit unseres Landes missbraucht worden sind. Schon allein darum genießen sie leider bis heute (zu Unrecht) oft einen schlechten Ruf. Befürworter der Runen hingegen meinen, dass man mit diesen Vorurteilen schleunigst aufräumen sollte, da sie Teil unserer früheren Kultur sind und daher Anerkennung verdienen. Freilich ist man sich heute Uneins, was Runen überhaupt waren: bloß ein altnordisches Alphabet, um Informationen weiterzugeben oder Texte für die Nachwelt zu hinterlassen? Oder sind es gar Zauberzeichen, die uns Geheimnisse zuraunen und mit denen germanische Priester oder Druiden magisch wirkten?Weit verbreitet ist die Vorstellung, dass bloß die Wikinger Runen nutzten. Anhand altüberlieferter Sagen des Harzes und Runenabbildungen, von z.B. lokalen Opfersteinen, wollen wir aufzeigen, dass diese Symbole durchaus bis nach Mitteldeutschland gefunden haben. Hier aber wurden Runen wohl nie als Schriftsprache, sondern tatsächlich an geheimnisumwobenen Orten mehr als magische Symbole verwendet. Was Runen gemeinhin waren und wofür man sie noch heute sinnvoll gebrauchen kann, sollte jeder für sich entscheiden. In unseren Abhandlungen möchten wir dich einladen, nicht irgendeiner Überlieferung oder Meinung blind zu glauben, sondern dich selbst mit den Runen praktisch auszuprobieren.
