I 1932 begyndte DSB for alvor at satse på busdrift. Vi følger historien i overordnede træk fra den spæde begyndelse i Sønderjylland og op gennem tiden til den bitre ende.Historien fortælles gennem billeder, som viser os de første rutebiler og derefter mangelsituationen under besættelsen og udvidelserne i årene derefter. Igennem 1950'erne, hvor rutebilerne havde deres storhedstid, følger vi udviklingen hen imod standardiserede bustyper. Mangfoldigheden var stor, og heldigvis har vi kunnet vise billeder af de fleste bustyper. I 1960'erne begyndte passagererne at udeblive, og der måtte indskrænkes på forskellig vis. Men trods dette kommer nye ruter til, bl.a. i takt med at jernbaner nedlægges. I de næste to årtier indtræder en form for stabilitet, som skyldes lovgivningen om, at amter og kommuner får det overordnede ansvar for bustrafikken. DSB rutebiler indtræder som entreprenør og udfører kørslen på kontrakt. Enkelte ruter drives dog fortsat for egen regning.I 1990'erne bliver det meste af buskørselen udbudt i licitation - og DSB busser bliver et selvstændigt aktieselskab, som udskilles fra DSB og overdrages til Trafikministeriet. Kort efter skifter DSB busser navn til Combus. I denne periode genindtræder tidligere tiders mangfoldighed i materiellet i takt med, at der stilles forskellige krav fra trafikselskaberne. Combus kom hurtigt ud i et sandt økonomisk uvejr, og i 2001 solgte Trafikministeriet selskabet til Arriva.Tag med på en tur med DSBs busser fra 1932 og op gennem tiden til afslutningen med Combus i 2001.
