The A.I. Revolution is here and many schools are scrambling with how to respond. The truth is nobody knows exactly how machine learning will change teaching and learning. Moving forward, educators will need to be adaptable in the face of these changes. But more importantly, our students will need to navigate a world where to corporate ladder is now a maze. They'll need to develop deeply human skills in a world of smart machines. This book does not offer a blueprint with specific directions for how to use generative AI. It doesn't offer a step-by-step instruction manual for how educators will need to re-imagine learning. But what it does offer is a roadmap for how we can navigate the changing terrain. We explore how AI works and how we can avoid the two dead-ends of the Lock It and Block It and the Techno-Futurism routes. In this roadmap, we offer a third way that is human-centered and tech-infused. We examine how AI is transforming creative thinking, information literacy, project-based learning, assessment, and personalized learning and how we might keep a human-centered focus as we navigate these changes. Finally, we analyze how AI is changing each subject area and how we can respond in a way that helps us leverage AI while maintaining our humanity.

A journey through the evolution of knowledge, communication, and information
What is power? How does it become centralized or decentralized? These questions are at the heart of understanding how governments work. Humankind has barely scratched the surface of what it takes to provide for democracy, equality, and reduced social risk. History has taught us that centralizing power in one group member creates maximum power inequality and typically results in abuse of power. Whether done consciously or unconsciously, that group member will inevitably make decisions that serve personal rather than public interests. It's human nature. In The Four Powers, Hanania provides a fast-paced historical assessment of centralized power. From World War I to crypto, Hanania explains the emerging trend toward technodemocracy: a decentralized system of governance whereby power-centralized institutions (such as churches, banks, political parties, campaign donors, Amazon, and the CIA) become obsolete.ABOUT THE AUTHORFrom the author of Architecture of a Technodemocracy (2018), an Amazon bestseller for both U.S. politics and sociology, comes this eye-opening analysis of the human power structure. Jason M. Hanania is an attorney, an engineer, and a former U.S. government employee.INTRODUCTIONAn Equation for PowerIn 2016 I set out to write the book Architecture of a Technodemocracy. It documents a system for ending political party systems using technology and democracy. Before authoring that book, I searched far and wide for an institutional definition of democracy but found none.If you asked ten social scientists for a simple definition of democracy, you would get ten different responses. As an engineer, I found this frustrating.I wanted a more technical understanding of democracy, a mathematical framework to build on.The same way physical science provides equations for motion (such as force equals mass times acceleration, or F = ma), I wanted a social science equation for democracy...

Recent years have seen a decline in craft and creative education in schools and a shift from practical to theoretical learning models in higher education. Young people are leaving school with no idea that craft-based careers are even possible, and graduates of craft-based degree courses are entering the workplace with so few hand skills that their employers must train them from scratch. Where did the idea come from that white-collar work should be rewarded more with money and status than that of a blue-collar worker? Intelligent Hands looks at this phenomenon, the historical precedents that led us here and why hand skills are crucial in education and for lifelong learning. The authors are on a mission to enlighten the uninitiated and persuade the naysayers who dismiss craft as no more than a nice hobby or believe that doing things with your hands is for those who can't use their heads. And for the converted, we offer more grist to your mills, ammunition for funding applications, inspiration for those who plan school curricula and further reading for your specialty. Intelligent Hands brings existing research and information together in an accessible format for those for those who don't have time to trawl through all the information that is already out there. With a brief look at the history of practical education, we have collated some of the research that has been done in disparate fields to show that combining physical ways of learning with the conceptual in education is the way forward. We include the personal stories of ten people who have discovered that working with their hands has improved their quality of life. Through the three sections of the book, we look at how physical laboring became separated from academic study, how we became divorced from the materials that surround us and the important role that the crafts and creativity play in education, not just for the lower streams, but for everyone. In short, how making is a skill for life.
