Denis Duval - William Makepeace Thackeray - Bog

Bag om Denis Duval

Denis Duval is a novel written by William Makepeace Thackeray. The story is set during the time of the Battle of Waterloo and follows the life of a young boy named Denis Duval. The novel is divided into three parts, each of which focuses on a different stage of Denis's life.In the first part of the novel, Denis is a young boy living with his mother in Brussels. He is sent to a boarding school in England where he meets a group of boys who become his close friends. The second part of the novel follows Denis as a young man who joins the British army and fights in the Battle of Waterloo. He is wounded in the battle and is taken prisoner by the French. The third part of the novel takes place after Denis is released from captivity. He returns to England and becomes a successful actor. He falls in love with a young woman named Rose, but their relationship is complicated by the fact that she is already engaged to another man.Throughout the novel, Thackeray explores themes of love, friendship, and loyalty. He also provides a vivid depiction of life during the Napoleonic Wars. Denis Duval is often considered to be one of Thackeray's most personal works, as it was the last novel he wrote before his death.""Oh, you storyteller!"" cries the other. ""What have you done with your three guineas which you were bragging about and showing to the boys at school? I suppose they were in the box when it was broken open."" This Samuel Arbin was one of the boys who had jeered when I was taken in charge by the constable, and would have liked me to be guilty, I almost think. I am afraid I had bragged about my money when I possessed it, and may have shown my shining gold pieces to some of the boys in school. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
