Den engelske romanforfatter, Jane Austen, var født ved Bastingstoke i England og voksede op i landlige middelstands-miljø. Man kan heller ikke undgå hendes elegant sprog, som taler stadig til os efter 200 år. Jane Austen har seks hovedværker, og tre af hendes mest populære bøger består af, “Fornuft og følelse” (Sense and sensibility 1811), “Stolthed og fordom” (Pride and prejudice 1813) og “Emma” 1816.
