As a result of investigations carried out in connection with space research considerable progress has been achieved in the construction of cryogenic machinery and in the heat insulation technique. It is for this reason that now it appears feasable to design deeply cooled cables for the transmission of the large amounts of energy as they will be required in future. Superconducting dc cables seem to be appropriate for the transmission of large energies over long distances, whereas superconducting ac cables will be advantageously applied for the supply of electrical energy into the towns from the existing ac power net work systems. Theoretical and practical investigations in connection with the develop­ ment of superconducting cables, carried out in the Anstalt fur Tieftempera­ turforschung at Graz, are described. Resume Grace au progres dans la construction des refrigerateurs et de la facilite d'isolement de tres basses temperatures atteint en suite de l'astronautique pendant les annees dernieres il semble possible de construire des cryo­ cables qui seront capables de transporter les puissances fortes necessaires dans l'avenir. Des cables supraconducteurs a courant continu s'offrent pour les puis­ sances tres fortes et pour les distances larges tandis que des cables supra­ conducteurs a courant alternatif puis sent etre employes pour munir les villes de l'energie prise du reseau a haute tension deja existant.
