England's Mean And Unpleasant Land - Mark Davies - Bog

- The Second Apocalypse Novel

Bag om England's Mean And Unpleasant Land

Following on from the apocalyptic events of Nothing Important Happened Today, Jack Walker has survived the Third World War thanks to his own secret nuclear fallout shelter. Although he was the person everyone least expected to come out on top in a do-or-die situation, Jack's detachment from society and his critical ability to worry about everything and prepare for even the most unlikely of situations in the end allowed him to prosper while everyone else succumbed to the chaos. But after a month spent enjoying the safe isolation in his end of the world trump card, Jack is forced to leave and face the dreaded outside world again. Emerging to a landscape that bears little resemblance to a world that aggravated him, the idea of having this ravaged version of England to himself - even if it is a barren wasteland - initially seems like a dream come true. In a twisted way the end of the world initially was probably the best thing to ever happen to the recluse. That is, until he realises that it's not only him that has survived to see this apocalyptic new world, but the people responsible for it. Travelling throughout the destroyed wasteland he now calls home, Jack comes into contact with more than he ever bargained for, and gains a sense of responsibility that he thought he was finally free from once and for all.
