Resource assessment is the primary and essential exercise towards project evaluation. In renewable energy projects the resource assessment exercise is important because of the intermittent nature of the resource. The maximum possible value of solar radiation on earth is solar constant (i.e. 1367 W/m2 ); which is the part of the energy emitted by the sun per unit time intercepted by a unit area of surface perpendicular to the direction of propagation of the radiation at the earth's mean distance from sun outside the atmosphere. Hence this indicates the maximum level of solar radiation available close to the earth, while as experienced on the earth's surface, the intensity of incident solar radiation varies, due to earth's rotation and variation of distance from the sun throughout the year. The solar radiation intensity at any location varies throughout the year due to variation in solar declination angle, solar hour angle and geographical angles like latitude and longitude. Besides these atmospheric conditions, such as humidity, cloud cover, amount of dust in air etc contribute towards attenuation of solar radiation received on the earth's surface.
Decision Science is the collection of quantitative techniques used to inform decision-making at the individual and population levels. It include decision analysis, risk analysis, cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analysis, constrained optimization, simulation modeling, and behavioral decision theory, as well as parts of operations research, microeconomics, statistical inference, management control, cognitive and social psychology, and computer science. By focusing on decisions as the unit of analysis, decision science provides a unique framework for understanding public health problems, and for improving policies to address those problems. Decision science has been used in business and management, law and education, environmental regulation, military science, public health and public policy. CHDS uses decision analytic methods to inform policies and practices that improve population health by systematically integrating scientific evidence with explicit consideration of individual and societal values for outcomes such as mortality, quality of life, and costs.
Business research methods include many ways of gathering information about an industry, its competition or the opportunities available that are relevant to conducting research. Some methods include scouring the Internet, collecting data at the library, interviewing customers, running surveys and focus groups. The process of undertaking detailed study of all the areas of a business including its customers and the market and effectively using such information gathered in maximizing the sales and profit of the business can be defined as Business Research. The sole purpose behind undertaking Business Research could be for any one or all of the following reasons: Targeting of customers; Understanding of market trends; Better knowledge about production departments; Projection of sales; Gaining knowledge about financial practices; Locating opportunities. For adopting steps to prevent future problems Business research when undertaken helps companies in better understanding of the needs and requirements of the existing and potential customers.
Operations research (OR) is an analytical method of problem-solving and decision-making that is useful in the management of organizations. In operations research, problems are broken down into basic components and then solved in defined steps by mathematical analysis. Analytical methods used in OR include mathematical logic, simulation, network analysis, queuing theory , and game theory . The process can be broadly broken down into three steps. A set of potential solutions to a problem is developed. (This set may be large.) The alternatives derived in the first step are analyzed and reduced to a small set of solutions most likely to prove workable. The alternatives derived in the second step are subjected to simulated implementation and, if possible, tested out in real-world situations. In this final step, psychology and management science often play important roles.
Operations management is an area of management concerned with designing and controlling the process of production and redesigning business operations in the production of goods or services. Operations management is chiefly concerned with planning, organizing and supervising in the contexts of production, manufacturing or the provision of services. As such, it is delivery-focused, ensuring that an organization successfully turns inputs to outputs in an efficient manner. The inputs themselves could represent anything from materials, equipment and technology to human resources such as staff or workers.Examples of the types of duties or specialist positions this encompasses are procurement (acquiring goods or services from external sources), managing relations with those involved in processes and improving a company¿s sustainability with regard to their use of resources.There are two key terms that can help answer the question of what operations management is more precisely: supply chain management and logistics. Operations management has firm foundations in both areas. For example, understanding global trends in supply chain management in order to meet client demand is often critical.
