Ny Jord – Tidsskrift for naturkritik er et multidisciplinært tidsskrift, der orienterer sig på tværs af århundreder og landegrænser og bringer videnskab, litteratur og kunst side om side i ønsket om at bidrage til en kvalificeret samtale om naturen i en tid, hvor vores forestillinger og idéer om den ændres markant.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) er en hovedskikkelse i europæisk idé- og litteraturhistorie, og hans Faust betragtes med rette som et af verdenslitteraturens mest komplekse og raffinerede værker. "Faust I" er nyoversat af Ejler Nyhavn. Den introduceres af Søren R. Det er en mere erotisk og religionskritisk Faust – en ‘autentisk’ Faust – vi nu for første gang får mulighed for at læse i en helt ny dansk oversættelse.Christian Lemmerz (f. 1959), billedkunstner. Han er født i Tyskland, bor og arbejder i Italien og Danmark. Uddannet klassisk billedhugger fra kunstakademiet i Carrara og senere fra Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi. Forlaget har udgivet hans bogværk "Tauber Vater".Ejler Nyhavn (f. 1960), germanist, oversætter, digter og musiker, og i 2016 udgav forlaget hans meget roste oversættelse af Hölderlins "Tårndigte".Søren R. Fauth (f. 1971), germanist, litteraturforsker, oversætter, digter og forfatter. Lektor og dr.phil. i tysk litteratur ved Aarhus Universitet.

Goethe's Faust reworks the late-medieval myth of Dr Faust, a brilliant scholar so disillusioned he resolves to make a contract or wager with the devil, Mephistopheles. The devil will do all he asks on Earth and seek to grant him a moment in life so glorious that he will wish it to last for ever. But if Faust does bid the moment stay, he falls to Mephisto and must serve him after death. In this first part of Goethe's great work the embittered thinker and Mephistopheles enter into their agreement, and soon Faust is living a life beyond his study and - in rejuvenated form - winning the love of the charming and beautiful Gretchen. But in this compelling tragedy of arrogance, unfulfilled desire and self-delusion, Faust, served by the devil, heads inexorably towards destruction.

In this sequel to Faust, Mephistopheles takes Faust on a journey through ancient Greek mythology, conjuring for him the insurpassably beautiful Helen of Troy, as well as the classical gods. Faust falls in love with and marries Helen, embodying for Goethe his 'imaginative longing to join poetically the Romantic Medievalism of the germanic West to the classical genius of the Greeks'. Further to the themes of redemption and salvation in this great drama, are Goethe's eerie premonitions of modern phenomena such as inflation and the creation of life by scientific synthesis.

Again you haunt me: come then, hold me fast!'Goethe viewed the writing of poetry as essentially autobiographical and the works selected in this volume represent over sixty years in the life of the poet. In early poems such as 'Prometheus' he rails against religion in an almost ecstatic fervour, while 'To the Moon' is an enigmatic meditation on the end of a love affair. The Roman Elegies show Goethe's use of Classical metres in homage to abcient Rome and its poets, and 'The Diary' , supressed for more than a century, is a narrative poem whose eroticism is unusually combined with its morality. Arranged chronologically, David Luke's verse translations are set alonjgside the German orginals to give a picture of Goethe's poetic development. This edition also includes an introduction and notes placing the poems in the context of the poet's life and times.
