Together with his Heidelberg University schoolmates, he organized Resistance fighters launching attacks against the German forces. Samuel was ordered to apprehend or terminate a German Jewish atomic scientist and his wife hiding in the Shanghai ghetto. The wife was Samuel's first girlfriend from Berlin.
