There is the natural aspect of life and death, and many mystical tales which still exist in our world. The book is about animals, but it is also a book about the relationship between humanity and beast. These animals are usually "happened upon" during their quest for existence.
There is a sense of love, irony, magic, and foreboding over the stewardship of nature in this book.
