Bag om Images of Boston
This book is a selection of images of Boston, an English town in Lincolnshire. Buildings can be seen which are reminders of the town's wealth in early medieval times when London was the only port town richer than Boston. St Botolph's Church (known locally as 'The Stump') is one of the largest churches in England, and its tower is the tallest of any parish church in the country. Other notable buildings include the Guildhall which is one of the earliest brick buildings in Lincolnshire. It still has the cells where two Pilgrim Fathers are thought to have been held when they first tried, unsuccessfully, to escape religious persecution by leaving for America. Another band of Puritans left from here and helped to found Boston, Massachusetts. The Puritan Path with its twelve 'stones' engraved with names is believed to be a unique memorial in England to those who sailed from Boston between 1630 and 1634.
