Bag om In Season and Out of Season
This book of sermons is collection of sermons selected from 54 years of preaching. It focuses on sermons for special occasions: for the festivals of the church year, for church anniversaries, and for similar special events. The perspective of the sermons is confessional Lutheran.
The title In Season and Out of Season relates to the fact that there are so many seasonal selections in this collection. In its original setting in Scripture, the expression "in season and out of season" refers to the truth that the preacher's message must remain the same whether people want to hear or they do not want to hear it (2 Timothy 4:2). Here the term is used in a different sense. Since the gospel message is the same in every season, sermons designed for a specific season or occasion of the church year may be read any time of the year. We can celebrate Christmas in July and Easter on any day of the year. Readers can read these sermons in season or out of season.
