Bag om Living through Cancer
This edition of Living through Cancer: Memoirs of a Canvivor by Felix Paul is an updated version of the story of his cancer journey originally published in 2017. Diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2008, the author was treated with conventional therapies including surgery and chemotherapy which sent him into remission for about three and a half years. When the cancer returned in 2011, he was treated with surgery and chemotherapy again, whereupon he turned cancer-free a second time. About seven months later, there was yet another recurrence with his oncologist telling him that the cancer had now turned metastatic. The initial phase of the treatment suggested this time included surgery and radiation therapy which left the author exhausted. When, a little later, the oncologist suggested a follow-up 'just to be on the safe side' - intensive chemotherapy and targeted therapy to be precise - it turned out to be his proverbial last straw. Declining the oncologist's suggestion, he started looking for help from alternative medicine more in despair than in hope. When at long last he turned to naturopathy, little did he expect that the switchover to a healthy lifestyle would eventually put him back on the road to recovery. About eight years into the new lifestyle, Felix Paul is still cancer-free. The book reads like an adventure story with the author sharing his experiences and emotions, as also the valuable lessons he has learnt during the last twelve years of his cancer journey. Apart from the new lifestyle, what has obviously helped him emerge triumphant is his grit and determination to put his cancer behind once and for all. His message of hope and optimism as well as his suggestions on fighting this disease naturally will go a long way in enthusing patients and survivors to successfully navigate the challenges of living through cancer. The book includes ten chapters and a notes section that provides glosses of key terms and details of references cited in the book.
