Bag om Mother Road Serenade
When one is brought up with Route 66, you find that it calls to you. It sings to you wherever you have gone; always needing you to come home.It used to be the bloodline to the country. Now, it has mostly faded into legend. Those of us who love her still, visit as often as possible. We are family; a family which spans the globe, awaiting our opportunity to visit our Mother Road.We come to remember. We come to forget. We come to learn. We come to teach. We come to be part of the greatest "Road Family" on Earth. We listen to the call; we hear the song; we all know its tune. It's a love song... a serenade. The road twists and turns and rises and falls with the land on which it is built, like the path in the wilderness. It is dotted with the ghosts of the past, gas stations, hotels, signs, cars and people. If you listen ever so close, you can hear them whisper their stories to you.I am David Moon, Jr. Just before my father passed away, he asked me to travel Route 66, in his car. I came down the road to honor his request, or maybe to find him and the mother I never knew, through the memories he had left for me to find. What I found was me... Me and a family I didn't know I had and a love inside myself; a love I never imagined I had. A love for Route 66. This is, after all, a love story...a love song...the Mother Road Serenade.
