Bag om Old Sayings I Just Made Up
"Old Sayings I Just Made Up" began on Twitter. Although Professor Ray Grant has a Masters Degree in poetry from world renowned University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, the 140 character restriction on Twitter was challenging and reminded him of poetry. He wrote all of his sayings which were basically summations of discussions he'd had with everybody in his life: wife, kids, friends, strangers, students, etc. He was cranking out the sayings daily all on his iPhone like an assembly line worker at a mass production plant. He received a tweet from a friend of his who's a TV personality. He said, "Man, I see your sayings. They're too good to be giving them away like this." Professor Ray Grant really wasn't thinking about that. He was like 'Who'd be interested in my thoughts?' Until one day he saw one of his sayings retweeted on a poster with someone else's name attached as the author. This person was in Asia and the Professor was in Atlanta, Ga. He said to himself, "Wait a minute. My saying was good enough to steal in Asia?" After that revelation he kept cranking the sayings out but began keeping the ones he thought were really good to myself. He began, however, stretching beyond the 140 Twitter characters on a few of them. He posted those on FaceBook, and surprisingly, received the same response he got from Twitter. He decided to test them, so he sent 50 of them to various friends he trusted and he was surprisingly asked to send more. He was told they were helping them. He was like "Really? How?" Turns out a NY doctor was using them in her morning staff meetings. She said it uplifted them before they would begin their hectic daily routines. Another friend in Kentucky said his sayings were 'great conversation starters.' And when the book is finished, he wants to give copies to his sons. Professor knew he had something then!
