Food crops have been the staple diet of most humans and animals since the dawn of time. The self-sufficiency of populations depends in part on the production of these food crops. This production is misdirected, with socio-economic, ecological and environmental consequences. Our era is experiencing the most deadly health problems in various forms because of this misdirection of agricultural policies. No-one is immune to this problem, even the so-called "rich". Citrus fruits and pulses are also affected by this phenomenon. The direct consumption of these food crops or through agri-food products is not without consequences for life on land and in water.
