Racing - Charles Curtis - Bog

- Indian Style

Bag om Racing

Charles Curtis was a Kansan, Native American, Jockey, Attorney, Senator and Vice President of the United States. He was the first person from Kansas and the first person of significant Native American heritage to rise to the top of the United States government - serving nearly twenty years in Congress and as Vice President under Herbert Hoover (1928 - 1932). Charles Curtis was known for his ability to tell a story - both in the courtroom and on the political stage. I believe this abandoned manuscript was his vision of an autobiography. It was never published. This book is an abridged version of an abandoned manuscript located in the archives of the Kansas State Historical Museum Library. It was prepared for publication by Kitty Frank and illustrated by Hailey East. This version contains only about half of the total manuscript - as much of the strictly political stories of his years in Congress have were edited out to keep the book of interest to younger or general interest readers. The entire manuscript is available in an unabridged version titled "The Life of Charles Curtis" which is published with Kindle Direct through amazon.com. Kitty lives in the Flint Hills of Kansas on land once belonging to the Kanza people. As a juried member of the Kansas Alliance of Professional Historical Performers, she portrays Grandma (Permelia Hubbard) Curtis. Cover art and illustrations are by Hailey East, East Works, Emporia, Kansas.
