Bag om Rudens (1891)
Rudens is a play written by Titus Maccius Plautus in 1891. The play is set in Sicily and follows the story of a young woman named Palaestra who is kidnapped by pirates and sold into slavery. She is purchased by a fisherman named Gripus who intends to sell her to a local brothel. However, Palaestra's beauty and intelligence catch the eye of a young man named Daemones who falls in love with her and sets out to rescue her from her life of slavery.Along the way, Daemones enlists the help of a clever slave named Sceparnio and a courtesan named Ampelisca. The group faces numerous obstacles and challenges, including dealing with Palaestra's cruel and manipulative owner, Labrax, and trying to avoid the wrath of the powerful and wealthy Demipho.Despite these challenges, Daemones and his allies are ultimately successful in their mission, and Palaestra is freed from her life of slavery. The play is a classic example of Roman comedy, featuring witty dialogue, mistaken identities, and a happy ending. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
