As an outsider from Taunton, Bell's townie ways may have ruffled a few feathers, but surely no one would murder a man over trying to bring Mill-Upon-Mortlake into the 1890s. Would they?

It's up to Daphne to prove herself useful in the eyes of the village, discover what has befallen Mr. Bell, keep her job, and silence the wagging tongues that claim the outsider must have had something to do with Bell's disappearance. But will Daphne's investigations make her seem indispensable? Or just inconvenient?
