Bag om Something Bigger
"Something Bigger" started simply as a poem, but it became a message I preached from the pulpit a few weeks later. As I reflected on just what the message inside this poem was, I discovered four totally separate yet equally important parts. First, there is simply something bigger than what I feel. In researching this feeling, I came across Romans 8:16-17 (NKJV): (16) The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God (17) and if children, then heirs-heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.. As I pondered the scripture, it started becoming clear. A child is usually the heir of his father's estate. If Jesus is the Son of God, and we are the Children of God, then does that not mean we share the same authority? The Son of God and I have the same Father, the same Creator. So, we are equal heirs to eternal life with the Father.I also found in Philippians 1:6-7 (NKJV): (6) being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will also complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; (7) just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, in as much as both in my chains and in defense of confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me in grace. I am loved by the highest of all authorities, and I have equal access to my Father's grace. So, Jesus is with me now and will be until His return. I am an heir from the same Father, and I can be glorified together with my Savior if I share in his suffering. Wow, there really is something bigger than what I feel. When I feel regret, loss, loneliness, inadequacy, depression, or even a sense of pride, God's grace and love are bigger. It's bigger for me, and it's bigger for you. You have the same access to his grace as I do, or as anybody else does. No matter what you think, you may feel His love. It is not restricted. It is unconditional. Salvation, of course, is a different matter. It is conditional, based on your faith and belief in Jesus as the Son, who died and rose again to cleanse your sins with his blood.
