The City of Gold - Daniel Guerra - Bog

- From Book 6 of the collection

Bag om The City of Gold

When I read the book written by my Malay grandfather, I knew through my reading where my father got the money. In the book was the whole adventure of my grandfather, being just a boy; and the heroic feat of Shred, the giant of the island and his gold. I was very sorry that my father did not even make a diary of his navigation, to have guided me to treasure island, and to have spared me all the dangerous obstacles to which I had to face. On second thought, maybe he did not write it because he did not know how to write very well. I refused to end my life like this; practically poor; without a college degree; and worst of all, without family. Completely incommunicado from the only world I had ever known. The one with the boarding school and the city of London. I walked out, winding down the hill because the house was on top of a hill. My grandparents' original house had collapsed over the years, and my father made a similar one in the same spot. I came to a stockade, but it was still high, and I wanted to be near the sea; perhaps to whisper some secrets. I reached the sand where there were some cliffs. The only ones that exist in that area. From there you can see the sea even when it hits the horizon. Maybe you can see a fishing boat or a tall ship anchored in the cove, if you are lucky. Many mangroves grow on that shore of the beach. In one of them my grandfather took shelter the day he began his adventure. There he waited for his friends in fulfillment of a bet that changed his life forever. The same one that changed the life of my parents and, consequently, mine. But my story was still missing several chapters to complete the book.
