The Disposables - Fred Shaw - Bog

The Disposables is Fred's second book, like the first (As the Mist Resembles the Rain) it is a collection of memoirs and stories reflecting his life's experiences including growing up in Philadelphia and vacations at the Jersey shore, a Navy stint, a thirty plus year career as an electrical engineer and manager in the space program (with twenty years of retirement) and a sixty-year marriage to Nancy. Like the first book, it is propelled by a close examination of his life and gives reflection to his love of dogs, family, community and people. Now living in Big Canoe GA and his dealings with the Big Canoe Animal Rescue has inspired three dog stories and the story of four shelter animals that live in his home. These stories are about creatures thrown out with the trash only to be polished and combed, cured of diseases, broken bones fixed, healed wounds and de-wormed inside and deflead outside and thus transformed into nearly perfect companions. As Vivian Sheperis, a member of the Big Canoe Writers stated "the dialogue is tough and to the point. It's real and honest . . . " As stated by Ken Reynolds for a Big Canoe Smoke Signals article, "From the stories we learn the author is a complex man who hears with his heart as well as his ears, and thinks about what he has seen and heard."
