In the operation and maintenance of highway networks, it is necessary from time to time to put in place temporary traffic management measures to facilitate safe road works or temporary closures or incident management, whilst keeping the traffic flowing as freely as possible. The Operations Document provides guidance for those responsible for planning, managing and participating in operations to implement, maintain and remove temporary traffic management arrangements. Chapter 7 reflects the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) which came into force in January 2003 and includes a number of revisions to the text from the previous edition. The aim of the title is to ensure that the correct signs are used (for any given circumstances), in the right position and at the appropriate size, to achieve a consistent approach across the country.
