Keegan Tate is an assistant district attorney in San Francisco who stays busy putting bad people in prison. Then one day, in the midst of a traffic jam on the Bay Bridge, she receives a call from a dead woman. The voice on the phone insists that she find the Three. In that moment, her world is turned upside-down. She is jolted out of old certainties and assurances and begins free-falling into strange, often frightening realities. When she cannot make sense of what is happening, she is introduced to an old woman, a café cook, who is also a holy woman and shaman. She becomes Keegan's mentor and guide and teaches her that her life and everything in it is controlled by love.
