FRONTIERS: WILD, SEMI-WILD, HUMAN.... A photographic Novel, is a book of photographs I have taken or worked on over a period of 6 years from 2012 to 2017. I love the concept of writing a novel through photography and that's why I called this book of photographs a photographic novel, for there is a strong narrative dimension in these photographs that creates visual literature. And this narrative link, for a good part, points to the content in the images. They are three countries where I took these photos from; Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa, three neighbours who share borders, languages, cultures, fauna, flora, etc, joined by a bond as old as creation, itself. I decided to work from the wild, to the semi wild, to human, exploring frontiers in these worlds, juxtaposing these worlds, one against the other or all three together in a photo, sometimes obsessively focusing on a single spot, repetitively creating different story strands from that one place, and then combine photography with other visual art medias like painting and drawing thus creating entirely different artworks. It is the essence of my work, to operate at the limit between natural and human landscapes, reality and fiction, nature and humanity, by bestowing an actual dimension to the utopian. The photographs are a celebration of this.¿Tendai Rinos Mwanaka is a multidisciplinary artist, editor, publisher and producer with 26 individual books and over 27 curated anthologies published in the US, Northern Ireland, UK, Cameroon and Zimbabwe. Peace of the Senses: How to Fight the FAGS is a collection of interlinked photographs that deals with the human story in several existential perspectives, especially how we find joy and happiness in difficult circumstances in life. Thus the images in this book celebrate human life, makes funny of difficult situations we go through. There is an element of the comedian in the photos, and it sometimes would create huge howls of laughter, sometimes chuckles and smiles. We go with the adage laughter is the best medicine in this work, and I believe this creates the peace of the senses, as the title presupposes. A set of common themes and philosophical questions permeates the book, bringing the narrative together as an author's self-interrogation through invented others. Detecting the thematic threads whilst paying attention to the differences requires one to experience the book both horizontally and vertically, following a narrative that seems as much widening as deepening.

What a Wonderful World is a story in pictures about what we can see all around us. The intent is to encourage us to be aware of our surroundings even when they are as small as the ants. The little bit of information is to make us think about what we see, why it is there, what it means, and how we can learn from seeing. Reading history from a book is nowhere near as interesting as seeing it in action, gaining an understanding of why it happened and comprehending a different culture through their methods of correspondence--pictographs.
Malanka is Ukrainian American visual artist, Yelena Yemchuk's sixth photobook. Like all bodies of work by Yemchuk, Malanka is personal, feminine, surrealist, and touched by a spell. The eponymous tradition is a pre-christian, heavily incantatory folklore ritual that takes place on January 14, the Old New Year in the Julian calendar. It is celebrated by ethnic Romanians in western Ukraine, and its origins are largely unknown. Yemchuk traveled to Crasna (Krasnoilsk in Ukrainian) in 2019 and 2020 to document the night-long festival. In essence, Malanka is about driving out winter and stimulating spring into existence, an ancient custom reminiscent of Persephone's return in Greek mythology. While photographing in Crasna, Yemchuk also made a companion short film, which premiered during her solo exhibition at the Ukrainian Museum in New York, in 2023. The film stars Ukrainian artist Anya Domashyna and the American actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Yemchuk, who was born in Kyiv and emigrated to the US when she was eleven years old, always invigorates her works with a particular notion of the in-between, meaning that she gently and joyfully plays on the ridge between fiction and reality; between the grand beauty of 1960s cinema and the social and built environments of post-soviet realms; between her Eastern European heritage and her daily life in New York. Through Yemchuk's gaze, places and spaces organically and dramatically blur, creating dreamscapes in which her subjects experience some form of metamorphosis. Malanka includes a poetic essay by Romanian cultural journalist Ioana Pelehatai.

However, the picturs are authentic we have savored all the cakes.
How can you tell when a new star is born? When does it become clear that the present moment has the power to change the future for ever? When Tim Bergling held his arm in the air in an iconic pose, he did more than get the crowd to dance – he also totally redefined electronic dance music. This book pays tribute to Tim’s musical career and traces his life in images from his childhood to some of his biggest gigs, including some rare personal moments.
In February 2022, photographer Max Manavi-Huber traveled 2,400 meters above sea level to the Great Rift Valley in Iten, Kenya. Considered to be one of the most wondrous natural landscapes in the world, the region is home to the majority of the country's world-class distance runners and elites in the making. With just a notebook, 30 rolls of Portra 400 film, and a vintage Mamiya RB67, Manavi-Huber set out to understand one of the world's most dominant and successful running cultures. The images in this book capture the humble and unfiltered way of life in this countryside of East Africa, where an inherited rawness, purity and allegiance to the sport of running continues to cultivate history-making champions. All film was processed and scanned in Germany at Safelight Berlin. Images were hand-printed in Paris by Lucas De L'Estang.Born in Schladming in the Austrian alps, Max Manavi-Huber is a visual artist based in Vienna. After earning a degree in graphic design from the New Design University in St. Pölten, Austria, he served as an art director for eight years before segueing into photography full time in 2020. A self-taught photographer with boundless range, Manavi-Huber's style gravitates toward unconventional subjects across the worlds of fashion, lifestyle, and sports. His imagery explores the union of movement, shadow, and framing, simultaneously capturing abstract beauty to evoke ineffable sentiment. His photography has been exhibited across Europe, his commercial portfolio includes campaigns for Asics, Salomon, and Parel studios. Champions (2023) is his debut art book.
This is a photographic study of javelinas that have made frequent visits to my property. In addition to the photographs, I made observations about their actions. They are interesting creatures and they behave like no other.
During World War II, navies developed camouflage for their ships. Applying it to both vertical and horizontal surfaces, they reduced visibility and confused the identities of their ships to the enemy. Maritime artist Malcolm Wright, author of popular books on British naval camouflage schemes in World War II, now turns his attention to the ships and aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Navy and Army from 1932 to 1945. Many schemes included in this volume are difficult to find without intensive research, making this a unique and valuable resource. The book covers every ship type from battleship to the smallest auxiliary, including the riverine craft that fought in China, all the ships in the separate fleet operated by the Imperial Japanese Army, and three special bonus pages describing camouflage schemes for selected hard-to-research ships from other navies. The timespan covered actually goes beyond 1932-45 and includes developmental milestones for each ship and class, from the 1914 construction of the battlecruiser KONGO to the 1946-47 repatriation service of the surviving vessels and their subsequent transfer to victorious navies. At 288 11" x 8.5" pages with half-inch margins and 9-point type, this book offers almost double the content area of the previous volumes in the series, which were 196 10" x 8" pages each, with a somewhat challenging 7-point font. This expansive and reader-friendly layout allows for numerous full-page spotlight views of important and interesting ships and planes, for a total of 952 images and captions. The durable case laminate jacket and 70-pound premium paper assure a long-lasting and pleasant physical experience. The captions combine construction, refit and service histories with sharp personal assessments of ship performance, accompanied by plank-level illustrations of the color schemes applied to ships and planes. Since sadly most pictures of World War II are in black and white, this book is a delight for anyone who wants to visualize the war as it actually occurred, in color. With its unparalled depth of technical detail and breadth of coverage, it is a must-have for students of naval history, the war in the Pacific, wargaming, and ship and aircraft modelling. The highly readable captions combine construction, refit and service histories with sharp personal assessments of ship performance, accompanied by plank-level illustrations of the color schemes applied to ships and planes. For more than three decades, Gregory Crewdson has been luring viewers into the worlds of his cinematic, highly detailed, and assiduously crafted photographs. This retrospective catalog features images from nine series that represent a broad chronological spectrum of Crewdson's oeuvre. Included are selections from Twilight, the eerie and often darkly humorous photographs inspired by Stephen Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind; Beneath the Roses, which illuminates townscapes, forest clearings and broad, desolate streets with unsettling clarity; the black and white images of Sanctuary, shot on location at the legendary Cinecittà studios on the outskirts of Rome; Cathedral of the Pines, a paean to the beauty and tragedy of a gritty western Massachusetts town; and Eveningside, in which moments of alienation and wonder occur within the confines of quotidian life. With highest quality reproductions, paper changes, and incisive essays by photography expert Walter Moser and other esteemed art historians, this exhibition catalog reveals why Crewdson's powerful, elegiac and painterly photos draw comparisons to old master painting, staged photography and auteur cinema.
Haas' most cherished and personal project-originally conceived as an audiovisual slideshow-is recreated here in stunning color that will delight his numerous fans as well as anyone interested in Kodachrome photography. Three decades after its completion, Haas' most personal and least-known project is now available for the first time in this exquisitely produced book. Presented in a clean and spare design, this volume features reproductions of superb quality that allow readers to appreciate his mastery of color, light, and composition, and his ability to capture the mystery of daily life. For this collection Haas drew on images made in all phases of his career from 1952 to 1984, and, despite the title, most of these photographs are not abstract but rather clear, focused, well-exposed images of recognizable surfaces from the observable world around him: crumbling paint, graphic road markings, fabric, liquids, detritus, decay, and torn posters. David Campany's eloquent introductory essay lays the groundwork for a deep appreciation of the slideshow which, in book form, can be savored and understood in an entirely new way.
London's leading pub tour guide and host of the celebrated Liquid History Tours guides readers off the beaten path and through the doors of London's lesser known but most authentic pubs, lovingly captured on camera by esteemed photographer Horst A. Friedrichs. Welcome to the world of London's finest backstreet boozers. It's easy to stumble into London's iconic pubs. The ones where Shakespeare trod the boards, or Dickens scribbled his next novel. What's more difficult and ultimately more rewarding, is finding that special pub that has just the right vibe ; the pub that's tucked away from the maddening crowds of tourists and noisy out-oftowners; that almost mystical pub that you'll want to return to on a rainy evening, or show off to your friends. These are the hidden gems that Friedrichs and Warland introduce you to. Covering every corner of London from the city centre to its outer limits and beyond, these watering holes are permeated by personality and a passion for traditional hospitality. While the interiors might not boast architectural wonders, their unique qualities are brought to life through Friedrichs' stunning photography, which illuminates their character and charm, their idiosyncratic hosts and patrons, the menus scrawled on chalkboard, worn leather stools, and quirky artifacts. The pubs are the stars of this invaluable book that's as informative as it is collectible.
