Når vi ser en film koncentrerer vi os mest om handlingen og tænker måske ikke så meget på alle de mange detaljer, som bevirker, at helheden er realistisk. Tid og sted og ikke mindst personerne skal fremstå virkelige og en stor del af dette billede er kostumerne. De skal underbygge både handling og personernes karakterer. Det er et stort arbejde at få dette til at passe, og man tænker sjældent på, hvad der er gået forud, før det ”sidder i kassen”. Det er netop, hvad Ulla Houmann gerne vil illustrere i sin bog.
