This book provides a narrative account of the experiences of twenty former scholarship students from historically disadvantaged communities who attended elite public and private secondary schools. It draws on in-depth, one-on-one semi-structured interviews conducted with former scholarship recipients who were between the ages of 19 and 24 years at the time of the interviews. Various themes are explored, specifically focusing on elite schooling in relation to the experiences and navigational practices of the scholarship recipients and the adjustments that they felt they needed to make in order to fit into the elite school space. The book analyses and discusses the reflective experiences of students who were awarded a scholarship to attend an elite secondary school. It reveals that accepting the gift of a scholarship is far more complex, multi-layered, and at times harsh and even painful for the individual recipients than is possibly realized by those involved in this practice. This book contributes to academic educational debates within the sociology of education, elite schools and schooling in the post-apartheid South African context.

This book presents a new, powerful, and practical way of making final decisions on the hard, complex, uncertain problems of life and work. What if you have looked at the data, talked with trusted colleagues, and applied all the relevant managerial and ethical frameworks, but you still don't know what is right. How should you make your final decision? This crucial question is rarely asked or answered. And some standard answers ¿ follow your moral compass, your conscience, or your values ¿ offer more inspiration than practical guidance. This book argues that, when we make final, hard decisions, we learn what is right by defining ¿ personally ¿ what is right. We find moral clarity by creating it. The book presents a fresh, challenging, and practical perspective on our hardest decisions. It offers a new conceptual approach for teachers and scholars and practical guidance for leaders and managers.

This book presents and discusses the results of the ¿Plans to Pedagogy¿ (P2P) project that was implemented across 13 diverse Australian and New Zealand schools, each with a unique school context and specific learning environment issue. The project employed a participatory approach, where academic researchers partnered with school leaders and staff in each school to co-design, implement, and evaluate research targeting the school¿s chosen issue. It explores and analyses the case studies from the project and discusses a range of topics, including how space can be used as a pedagogic tool, determining the affordances of learning environments to engage students, how teacher collaboration can be enhanced in flexible spaces, and how furniture influences student engagement and teacher pedagogies. It also provides school leaders with authentic examples of how research can be utilised to drive evidence-based discussions about teacher practices and student learning. Finally, it also illustrates how teachers can design and implement powerful studies that underpin better pedagogies in their schools.

Home to the location where George Washington took command of the troops and to America's oldest Ivy League university, Cambridge is a city that feels like a town. Hasty Pudding meetings were enlivened with mock trials spoofing happenings in Cambridge and among the faculty; by 1860 the trials had evolved into shows. In a corner of the Cambridge Common, across from Harvard Yard, a Gilded Age statue of a Puritan has been toppled several times. Letters home from Robert Kennedy were found stashed on a high shelf in a college room he occupied, over 30 years after he graduated. From protests to the "Beer Garden Summit", author Jane Merrill shares the stories behind notable landmarks and some significant but little-known facts in and around town.

THE gathering of information, to the inquisitive as well as to the indifferent mind, is the consequence of our Creator's magnificent design. "Knowledge," the collection of data-truthful or not-is enhanced simply by living. A writer's work is created using accumulated knowledge. Exhibition of the resultant accumulation is indicative of one's relationship with one's Creator-God.In 2005, a small collaborative project gave rise to the publication of three tracts on biblical principles relating to money. They were The Ministry of Tithing, The Ministry of Giving, and The Ministry of Lending. In 2016, an additional tract was written entitled The Ministry of Almsgiving. The Lord placed numerous roadblocks in the path of my resolute publication efforts. It was while in pursuit of the publication of the last tract and a reprint of the three originals, that there grew a consideration for a book-an extensive revision/expansion of the four tracts. It was during these researching efforts that I discovered the magnificent biblical precept of Grace Giving. While tithing is biblical, it is not Christian. This was strictly a practice, under Law, for the nation of Israel which has been fulfilled by Jesus Christ in the New Covenant of Grace. Furthermore, there is no instruction or example of a New Testament Christian tithing. Like temples, sacrifices, dietary laws, and priests, tithing has been nailed to the cross." More on this subject is to be found in the section entitled Grace Giving.
