To better understand the dynamics involved in the gender issues in managerial leadership, this qualitative research explores the common features in the path of women aiming for top leadership or management in the healthcare industry in Kenya but currently at the level of middle management. The general objective of the study was to determine forces affecting the attainment of managerial leadership positions among women in the Kenyan health sector. Phenomenology was applied as the research design. The constructivism approach is utilized, thereby making sense of the perspectives of female leaders through a feminist lens; because the issues are only regarded from a female point of view. There were three specific objectives asked to cover three domains that contribute to managerial leadership, i.e. the role of gender in job negotiations, issues surrounding work-life balance and factors that motivate women to seek leadership positions. The stories were derived by conducting eight interviews with women in these positions. The questions asked were open ended to facilitate free flow response and elicit personal experiences from the interviewees.

As such participatory management is a technique or the process of involving subordinates in planning, decision-making, information and making changes in schools (Kinicki& Williams, 2003).When principals, carry out their functions of planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling, the responsibility is on them as School leaders to optimally involve other staff members in the decision-making process. This might be possible if they adopt a management style, such as participative management which could assist them to align and integrate staff efforts and interests with the goals of the school. This is so because participatory management increases teachers¿ creativity, involvement, and commitment.

The corona virus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has caused an unprecedented crisis in all areas. In the field of education, this emergency has led to the massive closure of face-to-face activities of educational institutions in more than 190 countries in order to prevent the spread of the virus and mitigate its impact. According to data from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), by mid-May 2020, more than 1.2 billion students at all levels of education worldwide had stopped having face-to-face classes. In this context, the crisis will have a profoundly negative impact on the various social sectors, particularly health and education, as well as on employment and poverty (ECLAC, 2020a). There was a major setback for the educational institutions in order to manage the covid crisis situations, especially conducting classes, communicating with stake holders, following the rules and regulations in the premises. In this context the present research focused on covid crisis management among secondary school teachers and thus felt the need to explore.
