Watch the presentation video @ https://MusicBusinessMystery.comIt may surprise you to learn that most people who claim they are in the music business (i.e., managers, agents, scouts, etc.) are not. As a matter of fact, they really don't even know what the music business is. At least, not exactly. Even worse, the aspiring recording artist knows even less. This being the case, the aspiring recording artist is not equipped to recognize the dangers of pretend sharks that fester around the music business.Actually, sharks run the music business. But this is not the problem. At least not the immediate one. The main problem the aspiring recording artist will encounter is the myriad of sharks that pretend they are in the music business. The main difference between the real sharks and the pretend sharks is that you can make legitimate record deals with the real sharks. The pretenders are on the front lines, patiently waiting to take advantage of unsuspecting naïve starry-eyed dreamers.Unfortunately, most aspiring recording artists are so attracted to the pursuit of fame and fortune that they completely neglect the business side of the music business. And they are easy targets for pretend sharks to trick into wasting valuable time and money that lead to nowhere. Granted, plenty of one hit wonders have come and gone over the decades leaving a false impression of how to make it.The real sharks who run the music business are businessmen who control all those lucrative record deals; and they operate in a certain format. Unfortunately, the aspiring recording artist has no idea what that format is. And neither do those pretend sharks who only serve to waste your time and money.THE ONLY WAY for the aspiring recording artist to make it in the music business is to first understand what exactly the music business is and how it works. This alone is enough information to help you instantly recognize and avoid all the pretend sharks. And second, understand the format of how the businessmen who run the music business operate.Aspiring recording artists who don't follow the proper music business format at most will become a one hit wonder. But those who do follow the proper music business format are offered the most lucrative record deals. Every aspiring recording artist should arm themselves with this crucial information.
A PECULIAR gap exists between the accepted theoretical basis of instruction in singing and the actual methods of vocal teachers. Judging by the number of scientific treatises on the voice, the academic observer would be led to believe that a coherent Science of Voice Culture has been evolved. Modern methods of instruction in singing are presumed to embody a system of exact and infallible rules for the management of the voice. Teachers of singing in all the musical centers of Europe and America claim to follow a definite plan in the training of voices, based on established scientific principles. But a practical acquaintance with the modern art of Voice Culture reveals the fact that the laws of tone-production deduced from the scientific investigation of the voice do not furnish a satisfactory basis for a method of training voices. Throughout the entire vocal profession, among singers, teachers, and students alike, there is a general feeling of the insufficiency of present knowledge of the voice. The problem of the correct management of the vocal organs has not been finally and definitely solved. Voice Culture has not been reduced to an exact science. Vocal teachers are not in possession of an infallible method of training voices. Students of singing find great difficulty in learning how to use their voices. Voice Culture is generally recognized as entitled to a position among the exact sciences; but something remains to be done before it can assume that position.

The third volume of the Solo Acoustic Musician series expands on the booking chapter in SAM 1. Michael Nichols has done a deep dive into the business side of booking a gig by interviewing managers, owners, and agents who are in charge of hiring Solo Acoustic Musicians. This book reveals the perspectives of the people who handle the calendar of events and tells you what they think, what they want to know, and how to approach them, all of which is vital to success as a Solo Acoustic Musician. Michael once again strives to give you a truthful and transparent look into the lifestyle of a Solo Acoustic Musician by sharing the knowledge and wisdom of people in the business. He hopes to open your eyes to the other side of the exchange, and offer some understanding of what the person who might hire you is thinking. There are lots of music business books out there, but none of them have shared interviews with the people who can actually put you on the calendar and write you a check. The interviews in this book will give you a sense of why the person in charge might hire a musician, but also why they will keep them on the roster - or the opposite, when they stop hiring someone and why. Gaining this perspective will help you understand how to build long-lasting professional relationships with venue owners, managers, and agents.
A groundbreaking collection of inspiring and instructive conversations about the beauty, brutality, discipline, and technique of being a successful singer.

'Hilarious, heart-wrenching and packed with British music history.' - COLDPLAY A Virgin Radio Book of the Year It's a life-and-near-death story. But whose life? And whose near-death?As a one-time NME journalist, former Xfm radio presenter, toilet-circuit promoter and the founder of enduring homespun British record label Fierce Panda, Simon Williams has been at the cutting, cutting, cutting edge of all things 'indie' for over thirty years. During his tenure as managing director of Fierce Panda (a role he holds to this day), Simon was responsible for tripping over bands such as Coldplay, Keane, Placebo and countless other acts of independent hue - some of whom have gone on to achieve earth-shattering musical superstardom, while others have merely baffled the crowd at the Bull & Gate in north London on a wet Wednesday evening.Unfiltered and unflinching, Pandamonium! is the story of Simon's time at the indie coalface, filled with insider anecdotes to entertain music enthusiasts everywhere - from the origins of a bootlegged Oasis release to Chris Martin's delight at reaching number ninety-two in the charts. But it is also the story of how Simon tried to bring a premature end to proceedings, documenting in blunt, matter-of-fact detail his longstanding mental-health struggles.Yet, despite his raw and often poignant honesty, Simon writes with the warmth, wit, self-deprecation and wide-eyed good fortune of someone who has stared into the abyss and survived, bounding down a few indie rabbit holes along the way.

"This book is a critical history of Sub Pop Records, the Seattle independent rock label that launched the careers of countless influential grunge bands in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It focuses in particular on the languages and personas of the 'loser,' a term that encompassed the label's founders and personnel, its flagship bands (including Mudhoney, TAD, and Nirvana), and the avid vinyl-collecting fans it rapidly amassed. The loser became (and remains) the key Sub Pop identity, but it also grounded the label in the overt masculinity, sexism, and transgression of rock history. Rather than the usual reading of grunge as an alternative to the mainstream, Lamestains reveals a more equivocal and complicated relationship that Sub Pop exploited with great success."
